Like many of us graduating from high school, Yolanda Mickens was not exactly sure what lay ahead. Her first inclination was to enroll in beauty school to become a hair stylist. She soon decided, however, that styling hair was not her calling. Next, she thought of following in the footsteps of her grandmother who had earned a college nursing degree. She secured work with a nursing agency, but a company reorganization eventually left her without a job. Then, after much soul searching, Yolanda returned to beauty school and secured her license and certification as a nail technician, and later a certification as an esthetician as well.
She’s operated Fifty Shades Nail Salon since 1998, and while most of her clients are girls and women, an increasing number of men wanting to be well-groomed have become patrons as well. Services for those coming to Fifty Shades Nail Salon include not only a pedicure or manicure, but enhanced nails and body scrubs, if desired.
Yolanda’s concentration is always on quality customer service, including an emphasis on cleanliness and the health of her patron’s nails, along with the use of only the highest quality nail products.
She also works closely with each of her patrons, helping them choose the colors and nail products that are best for them.
She sums up her services saying, “I learned long ago that it’s not always about the dollar. Above all, I want my customers to be happy, satisfied and beautiful.”
