If someone you love is battling breast cancer, the breast surgeon she chooses will become an important member of her team and is someone she will follow up with for years to come. Dr. Vaishali Kent of Breast Care Specialists of Texas takes this role seriously, and is honored to walk alongside her patients who are battling breast cancer. “Patients often come to me scared and full of questions about what to expect,” said Dr. Kent. “It is important to spend enough time with each patient to earn her trust so that she feels comfortable and confident knowing that I will do everything I can for her.”
Dr. Kent is a fellowship-trained surgeon for breast cancer and breast disease. Her practice, Breast Care Specialists of Texas, a Baylor Scott & White Health-HealthTexas affiliate is located adjacent to Baylor All Saints Medical Center in Fort Worth, Texas. “I feel like I have something truly special and unique to offer my patients here at Breast Care Specialists of Texas,” she said. “I feel like I really connect well with my patients and make it a priority to assure them that I am not just their doctor and their surgeon, but also a partner with them in battling cancer.”
“My staff members and I try really, really hard to make sure we understand the patient’s point of view,” she added. “A cancer diagnosis is scary. We ask ourselves, ‘How would I feel if I were in her shoes?’ For that reason, communication is very important. Spending as much time with our patients as they need to feel comfortable with the plan is important.”
Meet Dr. Kent
Dr. Kent earned her medical degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. She completed a rigorous internship and residency in general surgery at INOVA Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, Virginia, followed by fellowship training in breast oncology at the University of Southern California. She is also board-certified in general surgery.
Dr. Kent recently had the opportunity to take part in a medical mission trip, providing wellness exams for young girls in an African orphanage. “I look forward to being able to do more of that kind of outreach,” she said.
She has been at Breast Care Specialists of Texas for two years. She and her husband have a 10-month-old baby boy. After years of moving and living far away from family due to her medical training and her husband’s military service, they are very happy to live in Fort Worth near plenty of extended family. “We really try to be there for each other and we meet every Sunday for a family dinner,” she said. “Family is so important.”
