“Top Doc” Jaideep Mehta, MD, MBA, FASA treats the source of his patients’ pain, not merely the symptoms. The fellowship-trained and Dual Board Certified Anesthesiologist and Pain Medicine Physician aims to restore patients’ function and quality of life, he treats pain due to degenerative disc disease, sports injuries, arthritis, cancer, trauma, neuropathy, and more. He also helps patients avoid or delay painful joint replacement surgeries.
Dr. Mehta is up-to-date on the latest drug-free, minimally invasive, and nonsurgical treatments. “Amazing innovations are changing the way we address pain,” he says. “Pain management used to be primarily focused on prescription medications and procedures with results that would only last a short amount of time. Not anymore.”
The SPRINT Peripheral Nerve Stimulation (PNS) System is one of the advanced, minimally invasive, drug-free treatments Dr. Mehta offers. “It’s a huge breakthrough in pain management. I was the first to leverage this technology in Houston and have performed more of these procedures than any other physician in the area,” he says. Dr. Mehta also trains other physicians on SPRINT PNS.
“Patients undergoing the procedure are typically in and out in under an hour. Treatment is complete in just two months, and the effects can be permanent,” Dr. Mehta explains. “I can use it to treat knee, hip, and shoulder pain, peripheral neuropathy in the feet, and have had phenomenal results using it to treat lower back pain. It can end the repetitive cycle and the short-lived benefits of lumbar facet joint injections and radiofrequency ablations that most pain physicians make the bread and butter of their practice.”
Dr. Mehta is also considered nationally as one of the top physicians performing the minimally invasive ligament decompression “MILD” procedure and the Vertiflex procedure. MILD treats lumbar spinal stenosis, a common cause of low back and leg pain, often due to enlargement of the ligament in the central portion of the spinal canal. He carefully removes this excess ligament tissue during the MILD procedure using guided imaging.
Vertiflex, another minimally invasive, FDA-cleared treatment, helps relieve lumbar radiculopathy and back pain by restoring the disc space between the vertebrae. “Unlike spinal fusion, Vertiflex can restore the disc space on multiple levels, while still preserving the option for future surgery if necessary,” explains Dr. Mehta.
Sacroiliac fusion, another cutting-edge, minimally invasive procedure, helps stop pain caused by sacroiliitis, which is often misdiagnosed at sciatica. By stabilizing the pelvis and sacral bones, patients may regain their quality of life.
