Houston Event Raises Over 1.5 Million

The American Heart Association raised over $1,525,000 at their recent Go Red for Women luncheon at The Post Oak Hotel at Uptown Houston. The event was chaired by Liz Youngblood, President of Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center and SVP/COO of St. Luke’s Health.

With the theme of “Reclaim Your Rhythm,” the 2022 luncheon emphasized the mind-heart-body connection, highlighting the impact stress can have on heart health and overall wellbeing. Research has shown that the rhythms of music can influence breathing and stimulate healthy hormones and body functions to lower blood pressure and improve heart rates. Plus, music can motivate us to move more – another key aspect of a heart-healthy lifestyle.

Upon arrival, guests were greeted by American Heart Association members with live music from DJ Blade. Houston radio personality Sarah Pepper served as the luncheon emcee, inspiring the audience with her own personal connection to the mission of the American Heart Association. As a single mom, Sarah shared that she has experienced heart issues due to stress and lack of sleep.

The luncheon included an expert speaking panel featuring Dr. Briana Costello and Dr. Stephanie Coulter from the Texas Heart Institute, Stephanie Tsuru, Co-Founder of SheSpace, and Natalia Egan, Creative Services Director of KPRC Ch 2.

Since 2004, the Go Red for Women movement has educated millions of women on their number one health threat, cardiovascular disease. The American Heart Association continues to innovate ways to ensure all women are aware of their health threats and risks and what they can do to reduce them.
