It seems a common trend that large corporate clinics are appearing on every corner. They are advertising unrealistic fees and quick impersonal appointments that leave their patients feeling unappreciated. Amy Schoening has come to realize bigger isn’t always better—not for her patients, staff or for herself. Dr. Schoening started with a small solo practice and experienced what every dentist dreams of, due to her successful leadership her dental team expanded and her patient base grew by leaps and bounds.
Dr. Schoening had a very successful business, but for some reason she felt something was missing . “One of the reasons I chose dentistry as my life’s work is the relationships with patients,” she said. “I love nothing more than spending time getting to know my patients, their children, parents and friends. However, the bigger my practice grew the less time I had to interact with my patients or to invest in my staff.”
She is returning to that small office atmosphere that she has missed and her patients are ecstatic. “Having the skill to truly transform someone’s life by giving them a smile they can feel confident about is what has made dentistry my passion,” she said. “Now I have time to slow down and tune in to each individual patient and their needs—whether they be physical or emotional. “
Dr. Schoening’s patients hail her as a dentist who pays attention to the smallest detail and always takes the time to treat them as respected individuals and family. With 25 years of experience, she’s still passionate about constantly re-educating herself in the latest techniques and dental technology.
“I want to thank my wonderfully supportive family and a team of people who’ve stuck with me and believed in my goals and visions,” Dr. Schoening said.
“I’m looking forward to taking everything I’ve learned over my 25 year career and building the perfect, small practice that reflects my philosophy and my vision for dental care. In the end, I hope the people I’ve known and touched—both personally and professionally—will remember me as a good person who cared for others, someone they could trust without hesitation.”
Dr. Schoening is an active member, past president and board member of Dental Health Arlington, a nationally recognized non-profit with the goal of providing preventive and pain-relieving services to low-income residents as well as educating children about healthy oral hygiene habits.
