As parents seek a private education for their children, a growing number are choosing The Connection School of Houston (TCS). TCS is a Christian Classical school serving the Cypress area that uses a holistic curriculum that cultivates wisdom and virtue in their students. In addition to smaller class sizes with attention to individual learning styles, TCS encourages critical thinking, welcomes a spirit of inquiry, fosters Christ-centered values, supports a culture of community, and embraces active parental involvement.
Head of School Kathleen Wrobleske has taught in both public and private education. For more than 20 years, she has worked specifically within the Christian Classical model. Since founding TCS in 2012, she has watched children in the Cypress area flourish using this philosophy.
“Education is a process that equips students with the tools of learning,” says Kathleen. “A great teacher is a mentor who should help a student fall in love with the process of learning. Our hope is that our students go on to be lifelong learners. We do this by using a didactic and Socratic teaching model that engages students to take an active part in their learning. Christian Classical education is based on scripture and the seven liberal arts. These arts of learning equip a student to be able to reason well, pursue truth, goodness, and beauty, and to see the world through a lens of wonder as they strive toward understanding.”
In the classroom, the teachers focus on integrating the liberal arts of grammar, logic, and rhetoric at all levels and within all subjects, emphasizing clear, structured writing, and speaking across the curriculum. All grades have a rich literature selection that builds moral imagination, engages the big ideas throughout history, and develops a love of reading.
Math and science classes at TCS incorporate these arts of reasoning and expression as they guide students in building foundational skills with hands-on experiences and real-life applications.
High school classes prioritize the development of a student’s character and virtue and the equipping for life beyond high school, as well as the skills needed for college-level academic success.
With this distinctive educational philosophy, small class sizes, and an emphasis on Christian discipleship, TCS believes children can thrive.
“We want children to see that everything is connected — their purpose in life, their connection with God and biblical truths, their connections to each other — as they discover Christ as the unifying principle.”
“We’re blessed to have an amazingly talented faculty. Our teachers are qualified in their areas of instruction, committed to our philosophy of mentorship instruction, and are examples of integrity in their Christian walks.”
Parents Praise The Connection School
Ivonne and Paula are just two of the happy parents who are thankful that God led them to TCS.
Ivonne says TCS has positively changed her perception of what education should be. “My children’s school wasn’t managing the pandemic well, and they were falling behind,” Ivonne shares. Her fears were confirmed when her boys were evaluated for placement at other private schools, but she felt they, too, fell short of meeting the needs of her children. “They didn’t provide a real plan to help get my two boys back on track, aside from simply saying they wanted to hold them back a grade.”
Then she visited TCS. “The Connection School’s response was a breath of fresh air. They said, ‘We’ll help you and partner with you to develop their skills.’ The administration and teachers were sincere, welcomed us with warmth, made a commitment, and laid out a plan with so much love and grace. I realize now that I’d been walking blind as a parent at my children’s previous school.”
By the end of the school year, Ivonne’s boys had caught up and love going to TCS. And Ivonne, who works full time, volunteers at the school when she can and enjoys being part of a friendly, interactive group of parents.
Paula’s teenage son and daughter have been attending TCS since its inception. Now in their junior year, her twins are not only receiving a solid academic education but are also involved in athletics, music, and student council.
“What truly sets The Connection School apart is that they look after and nurture the whole child,” Paula shares. “They provide a Christian education and focus on academics, but go beyond this, touching the heart, mind, and soul of each child. The discussions teachers have in the classroom continue at home, so the family participates in the conversation. Parents’ opinions are valued, and parents are viewed as a crucial resource to the school versus outsiders.”
TCS is currently accepting applications for the 2022-23 school year. For more information about admissions and open house events, visit tcsoh.org or contact TCS at email@example.com.
