Leveraging Cutting-Edge Technology

Drs. Reed and Smith use advanced technology for routine care as well as specialty services. For example, the two offices are equipped with iTero intraoral scanners that create a 3D image of your teeth in just minutes. Of the three systems they have, one is the new, multifunctional iTero 5D Plus which uses near-infrared imaging technology to detect tooth decay.

Drs. Reed and Smith also use lasers for everything from root canal therapy to cosmetic procedures. Laser technology can even provide effective snoring treatment. Dr. Reed uses NightLase, a noninvasive laser technology that helps reduce snoring and improve sleep quality. “NightLase stimulates collagen contraction in the upper airway tissues. As those tissues tighten, the risk they will overrelax during sleep and contribute to obstructive sleep apnea and snoring is reduced,” Dr. Reed explains.

The prevalence of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) has increased substantially over the last two decades. Dr. Reed sees many patients who suffer from mild to moderate OSA, treating them with a custom-designed oral appliance worn while they sleep.

“With the CPAP recalls due to safety issues, more patients are interested in seeing if they are a good candidate for OSA oral appliance therapy,” says Dr. Reed. “I use new, digitally fabricated oral appliance technology that has a thinner, lower profile. It minimizes potential side effects such as bite issues, and the material makes it less likely for a dental biofilm to form. This is important because biofilms are often a root cause of oral diseases.” She adds, “Patients with mild OSA who opt to try NightLase first, often find they don’t need to wear an oral appliance, let alone a CPAP.”

Meet Alisa Reed, DDS

After graduating from Louisiana Tech University, Dr. Reed earned a Doctor of Dental Surgery and an Advanced Education in a residency in general dentistry at Louisiana State University. She stays on the leading edge of dentistry, regularly completing continuing education classes on state-of-the-art procedures and best practices for safety and sterilization.

Dr. Reed, a mother of three, has lived in The Woodlands for more than 25 years. Outside of the office, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, cooking, and loves being active in The Woodlands community.

Meet Stacey Smith, DDS

Dr. Smith, a native Houstonian who grew up in Humble, has practiced dentistry for 18 years. After earning an undergraduate degree in biology from Texas A&M University, she completed her Doctor of Dental Surgery followed by a two-year advanced general dentistry residency at the University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio. She also taught dental students at the University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio for more than seven years and was a program director in the Advanced General Dentistry Program. A life-long learner, Dr. Smith embraces continuing education and stays up to date on the latest advances in dentistry.
