Meet Dr. Syed Nizami

Born and raised in Oklahoma, Dr. Nizami was drawn to a career in medicine because it combines two of his passions — science and working with people to help them improve their life experiences. He knew he had found his ultimate calling during a clinical rotation in psychiatry in medical school.

“Psychiatry encompasses a uniquely human side of medicine where you develop a real connection with your patients,” Dr. Nizami says. His interest in further specializing led him to complete a child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship following medical school. “I realized a lot of adults seeking help had issues that started during childhood. Specializing in child and adolescent psychiatry gives me an opportunity to change the trajectory so they may live their best lives as adults.”

Dr. Nizami earned a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from the University of Oklahoma and his medical degree from the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine. He completed his psychiatry residency at the University of Maryland-Sheppard Pratt in Baltimore and a child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship at McGaw Medical Center of Northwestern University in Chicago.

Moving to Dallas, Dr. Nizami was the medical director of UT-Southwestern’s Pediatric Psychiatry Consultation and Liaison team at Children’s Medical Center before becoming the Medical Director of Connections Wellness Group’s Adolescent Partial Hospitalization and Intensive Outpatient Programs.
