Fact. Skin cancer is the most common of all cancer types. Fact. The American Cancer Society predicts that more than 3.5 million cases of non-melanoma skin cancer and more than 76,000 cases of melanoma (the most serious form of skin cancer) will be diagnosed in the U.S. this year. The dermatology professionals at Texas Dermatology Specialists in North Cypress, Willowbrook, Memorial City and Katy don’t want you to be one of them.

That’s why they offer an in-office, state-of-the-art procedure with a high cure rate for skin cancer. Mohs Surgery is a highly specialized technique which allows for removal of the skin cancer, without taking any more skin than is absolutely necessary.  This leads to better outcomes because it spares normal surrounding areas but still achieves a high cure rate.

Highest Cure Rate

Dr. Joseph Sedrak, founder of Texas Dermatology Specialists is fellowship-trained in Mohs Micrographic Surgery and a Fellow of the American College of Mohs Surgery. Unlike most dermatologist who are able to diagnose skin cancer but must then refer patients out for treatment, Dr. Sedrak is able to perform Mohs surgery in-office and check to make sure the cancer was removed while you are there, including the roots of a skin cancer which may extend beyond the visible portion of the tumor and can cause the cancer to reoccur.

Tissue-Sparing Surgery

If he determines that even a microscopic amount of cancer has remained, he is able to operate again immediately and remove the affected tissue. Mohs surgery results in a very high cure rate for complex skin cancers yet it is a tissue-sparing technique which removes only the amount of tissue that absolutely must be removed, greatly minimizing scarring. Procedures performed in-office require only local anesthesia and carry less risk of infection and other complications that those performed in a hospital under anesthesia.

Proactive Dermatology

Mohs surgery is only one way the doctors of Texas Dermatology have established themselves as a premier dermatology practice in this area. Another is their emphasis on skin health and patient education. “We promote routine skin cancer screenings for all adults and especially anyone who has a history of skin cancer,” said Co-Founder Dr. Silvia Sedrak. “Because much sun damage is done before the age of thirty, it’s important that you take the time to have your skin evaluated and that you alert your doctor to any changes in your skin, especially if you’ve had any issues before. The sooner a skin cancer is detected, the less invasive the removal and the more positive your chance of successful removal.”  That is why the American Academy of Dermatology recommends annual skin checks or more based on your doctors recommendations.

Laser Treatment for Psoriasis and Vitiligo

If you have any areas of Psoriasis and Vitiligo, you know what it’s like to spend the summer planning your wardrobe around concealing certain areas of your body. It is for you that Texas Dermatology offers the FDA-approved Xtrac laser for treatment of Psoriasis and Vitiligo which is covered by most insurances.

Using a carefully focused beam of light delivered through a sophisticated liquid light guide device, the XTRAC excimer laser system allows a physician to deliver a high dose of monochromatic UVB right to the spot of the problem for fast, effective, and painless treatment of Psoriasis and Vitiligo, while minimizing the risk of exposure to surrounding healthy skin. Many patients see significant improvement and long-lasting remissions.

Doctor-administered Cosmetic Procedures

Texas Dermatology offers a wide variety of cosmetic procedures which are primarily performed by doctors. “Our patients often tell us how confident they feel having a doctor perform their injection or chemical peel,” Dr. Sedrak said. With summer just around the corner, you can be ready and looking your freshest with Botox, Dysport, chemical peels, laser peels, photofacials, vein treatment and the latest injectable fillers and treatments.
