Despite her youthful appearance—perhaps especially because of it, Meghan Hansen, MD, understands the concerns patients have about the experience and qualifications of a prospective physician. As a breast surgeon, she has the added responsibility of seeing that her patients’ cosmetic concerns are addressed, and in cases of cancer, to demonstrate the utmost level of proficiency and mastery of the healing arts. Breast patients in the Frisco-Plano area are fortunate to have such a highly-trained surgeon available in their community.
Dr. Hansen is board certified in general surgery and specializes in breast surgery. When she relocated to Texas in 2015 she became one of only a handful of fellowship-trained breast surgeons in Frisco-Plano, bringing with her leading edge surgical techniques and an enhanced standard of care. She completed her fellowship in breast surgical oncology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. She specializes in the management of diseases of the breast. Whether the concern is a benign lump in the breast or a cancer diagnosis, patients with any sort of breast-related medical issues are in good hands with Dr. Hansen. Surgical procedures she specializes in include skin-sparing and nipple-sparing mastectomies and techniques to hide scars and rearrange breast tissue (oncoplastic surgery). She routinely performs ultrasound-guided breast biopsies and other office-based procedures, so there is no need for a referral to another doctor or facility to obtain diagnosis or treatment.
Dr. Hansen is a member of the American College of Surgeons, American Society of Breast Surgeons, American Society of Clinical Oncology, and Society of Surgical Oncology. She earned her medical degree from the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine and completed her internship and residency in general surgery at the University of Missouri. She is a physician with Texas Breast Specialists, a part of Texas Oncology.
Dr. Hansen treats any benign breast disease or cancer. Some prospective patients may not be aware that men can also suffer from breast-related issues, even breast cancer. Regardless of a patient’s gender, Dr. Hansen treats any and all breast issues and needs. She applies the same compassion and the same attention to detail in every case, to every patient.
As a mother of two children, Dr. Hansen works from firsthand experience of women’s breast issues and therefore truly understands what is involved in treating women’s needs. “As a female, I know how I’d want to be treated and how I’d want surgery performed on me.” she says.
Dr. Hansen treats many women who are breastfeeding and have breast infections, and has experienced some of these same issues herself. “I’ve been there,” she said. “I’ve done that. I’ve had my own breast infection, so I know exactly what they’re going through. I can relate to the physical and emotional challenges my patients have, and better help them through that difficult time.”
For those patients who prefer healthcare from a female perspective, she may be the ideal choice for a breast specialist.
Patients concerned about a breast lump can come to her for an examination, and she can perform the ultrasound, biopsy of the area, and refer to a radiologist if needed. She can take care of everything the patient needs at her clinic and proceed to guide them through their entire treatment plan.
“My job is to give the patient the information, empower them to make their own decisions, and help guide them through their treatment. I’m with them every step of the way. I spend a lot of time with my patients explaining to them what is going on, making sure that they have the knowledge they need, and are comfortable with their care. I truly care about my patients, and I want them to have the best outcomes,” said Dr. Hansen. “I’m careful to use the latest techniques to ensure that scars are hidden, which I know is very important for the best cosmetic outcomes. I went in to this profession to help people and want them to get the most up-to-date care.”
For people with breast-related issues who want a female perspective, individualized patient care, and empowerment through knowledge, Dr. Hansen is a physician who will guide them through the process from diagnosis to treatment. She is thoroughly trained and equipped to treat any breast issue, especially breast cancer, and she employs the latest in techniques and technology to minimize surgical scarring and produce the best possible outcomes for the entire spectrum of breast health. She understands firsthand the health and cosmetic concerns of patients faced with the prospect of breast surgery.
Originally from Iowa, Dr. Hansen moved to Texas a few years ago and now lives in Plano with her husband and their two young daughters. Dr. Hansen mainly serves the Frisco area, but also serves many patients residing in Plano. Additionally, she spends a couple days per week working in McKinney so her services are more widely available. If you have a breast-related concern of any kind, Dr. Hansen is well-qualified to provide patients enhanced breast care in a caring and compassionate environment.
