Watters Creek Dental

BY MEREDITH KNIGHT

Tammy Weyandt had no idea patients didn’t like going to the dentist, until she got to dental school. “I always loved seeing our family dentist,” she said. “It was never a big deal to me. One of the things I learned in dental school is that people hate going to the dentist.” Now, as founder and owner of Watters Creek Dental, she sees patients all the time — adults mostly — who absolutely dread their time in the dentist’s chair.

“It’s usually because of an experience they had as a child that’s never left them,” Dr. Weyandt said. “One of the most rewarding things my team and I can do is help them overcome a fear that’s very real to them.” Dr. Weyandt begins by just sitting with the patient and allowing them to talk about the things that worry them.

“Sometimes it’s the needle or the noise of the drill,” Dr. Weyandt said. “Sometimes they’re worried about post-treatment pain or someone being in their personal space. Sometimes it’s all of it. Once we know, we can take steps to address their concern.”

For Dr. Weyandt and her team, the best outcome is finishing an appointment and hearing a patient say, “Wow, that wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be.” Then, they know they have a patient for life. In fact, it’s patients like that who, even after they move out of state, still arrange to return to Watters Creek Dental for their dental care.

“I have patients who’ve moved elsewhere in Texas and other states but still come in for their cleanings and treatment,” Dr. Weyandt said. “Whenever they come for a visit, they make sure to include an appointment with us during their stay. We love that we’ve made such an impact on someone’s life that they still want to come back to us.”

In some families, that impact crosses three generations. “I have patients I treated as a child who grew up, went to college, got married, and are now bringing their children to see me,” Dr. Weyandt said. “It means the world to my team and me that they trust us that much, and we love being part of so many local families.”

The Watters Creek Dental team continues to earn that trust by constantly reeducating themselves about dental breakthroughs and advancements and investing in the latest technology such as iTero digital scanning which eliminates the need for gooey impressions, in-office Biolase laser whitening, same-day crowns made in-office, implants, veneers, and Invisalign clear tooth aligners. “With cosmetic dentistry, we can do as much or as little as you want,” Dr. Weyandt said. “It’s amazing the difference even a small procedure can make.”

Dr. Weyandt opened her practice in Allen in 2003. When not on the job, she enjoys reading, working out, staying active in her church, volunteering with her son through YMSL, traveling, and spending time with her family.
