When Paula Thomas is on the same side of town as her dentist’s office, she stops in to say hi. It’s that kind of place. For the first 50 years of her life, Paula moved around a lot and had experience with many different dental practices. “I can’t say I ever looked forward to a dentist’s appointment,” she said. “I had a lot of dental issues, but I certainly never went out of my way to see my dentist or their staff. Then I met Dr. Perry.”
Paula’s first visit with Dr. Svetlana Perry of Perry Dentistry in McKinney was an emergency. “I had a toothache and was in a lot of pain,” Paula said. “Not only did Dr. Perry see me right away, but she gave me her cell phone number and told me to call her any time, even on the weekend, if I had another problem. I came home and told my husband, ‘I made a new friend today’.
“Recently I had a problem with my upper denture,” Paula continued. “Dr. Perry knew I was self-conscious about it, so she got me right in and put a rush on the repair, so I could have it back that day. Another time, she had to refer me to an oral surgeon and, that night, not only did the surgeon call and check on me, but Dr. Perry called me as well, just to make sure I was okay. For all those reasons and more I recommend her to
all my friends.”
Lila Krisp says you can feel the difference, the minute you walk into Perry Dentistry. “It’s such a happy place,” she said. “You can tell the staff all love their jobs. Going to the dentist can be stressful but not here. There’s just a great feeling, when you walk in.”
Lila’s husband first went to Dr. Perry with a broken tooth. “Even though he was a new patient, she arranged things so he could come in immediately,” Lila said. “Right away we knew we were in good hands. She’s a dentist who really listens and then presents you with treatment options. She never pressures you to have anything done but explains what’s going on and makes recommendations. The decision is up to you. We’ve come to trust her completely.”
“She has so much energy,” added Doreen Younghusband. “I’ve seen her at the end of a long day and she’s just as fresh and pleasant as can be. I appreciate the way she focuses on each patient, never beginning your treatment until she sees how you’re doing, how things are going with you personally. Her concern is genuine and individual.
“I had one crown all the way in the back, where no one would see it. She wasn’t happy with the way it came out and was determined to make it perfect. In the end she redid it and didn’t charge me for the extra work. I’m a caregiver myself and spend a lot of time in doctors’ offices with the lady I care for. I can tell you that a medical practice like Dr. Perry’s—where each patient is treated with so much care and concern—is a rare thing.”
“My goal is to provide such a patient-centered experience that, once a patient has visited my office a few times, they’ll be able to forget any fears they may have felt in the past and understand that a visit to the dentist can be a pleasant experience,” Dr. Perry said. “My staff and I want each patient to feel like they’re the only one we’ll see that day. If they’re nervous about a procedure, I want them to know that care won’t proceed until they say it will. If cost is an issue, I want them to feel entirely comfortable discussing it with me, and together we can come up with a payment option they’re comfortable with.”
