Starr Law Firm, P.C.
Life is unpredictable. Your health, assets, preferences—even your family—can change. It’s often tempting to put off planning for your future, but this, too, is changing. Now, more than ever, people seek professional estate planning, advance directives for medical decisions, and guardianships for minor children, and are scheduling consultations with Laura Starr, Managing Shareholder at Starr Law Firm, P.C.
“Everyone wants peace of mind, especially in times of uncertainty. You don’t want the courts making estate decisions if you become incapacitated or after your death or have your will enter probate which can be costly, time-consuming, and a matter of public record,” says Laura.
Family-Owned, Family Run Law Firm with Roots in Plano
Laura’s passion for serving others runs deep. Growing up, she saw how much her father helped his legal clients. It inspired her to follow in his footsteps as well as forge her own path as an attorney. After earning an undergraduate degree from Texas Christian University, she received her Juris Doctorate from DePaul University College of Law in Chicago. She returned home to Plano to practice alongside her father.
Laura’s clients benefit from her ability to look at the big picture as well as the fine details, help clarify their individual needs, and offer comprehensive, creative, customized solutions.
“I enjoy getting to know my clients and building a trusting relationship with them,” says Laura, who primarily focuses on estate planning, probate, and guardianship law. “After understanding what they want and need, I educate clients on the best legal approach that protects them and their family. Everyone has unique goals and circumstances. Every plan is completely customized to the client.”
A Business Built on Relationships
Laura and her father, Bert Starr, the firm’s founding partner, and her husband Michael Presbitero, who joined the practice in 2017, have more than 50 years of combined legal experience. Bert and Michael provide legal services pertaining to corporate and business matters, real estate transactions, and tax matters.
“Our clients become part of our legal family. We offer breadth and depth yet are small enough to know our clients by name,” Laura says.
She routinely welcomes new clients and sees existing clients for reviews and changes. They also call her before making important decisions or when going through life changes, such as marriage or divorce.
Additionally, it’s common for clients to seek counsel from the other two attorneys in the firm, and vice versa. “For example, clients who see me for personal estate planning may also be small business owners who need help with business succession planning,” Laura says.
Laura is active in female-focused professional organizations and speaks to organizations about the importance of estate planning. She is a member of the State Bar of Texas, Dallas Bar Association, Illinois Bar Association, Chicago Bar Association, and the American Bar Association. Outside of work, she enjoys traveling and spending quality time with her husband and their rescue dog, Carl.
