If you are interested in achieving better health in a natural way, Vince Baugher, DC, provides a roadmap for you. “My mission is to help as many people as possible return to health so they can do what they were put on this planet to do,” Dr. Baugher said, emphasizing that he teaches patients that true health is a journey, not a destination.
Influenced to become a chiropractor when his mother made a miraculous recovery from epilepsy with the help of chiropractic treatment, Dr. Baugher opened his own practice in Denton, The Spinal Decompression and Chiropractic Center, in 2000. The first doctor to bring nonsurgical spinal decompression to Denton County, Dr. Baugher is an expert in that field. Herniated discs can be severe, and conventional wisdom was that surgery was the only option. But Dr. Baugher, one of the first chiropractors in the country to be certified by the International Medical Advisory Board for Spinal Decompression, now receives many referrals from orthopedic and neurosurgeons, as well as other medical doctors, because of his successful treatment of thousands of such cases.
Dr. Baugher takes pride in offering state-of-the-art treatment for spinal conditions while giving his patients clear explanations for everything he does. However, he gives the credit for his success to God. “God is very much behind who we are and what we’re up to,” explained Baugher. “We pray together for our patients every morning.”
He graduated from the University of Alabama with a BSc in biochemistry and then from Parker University of Chiropractic in Dallas, which has the reputation of being the “Harvard of chiropractic schools.” Patients might be surprised to learn that chiropractic students have to take 4485 classroom hours of courses on the human body—anatomy, physiology, embryology, histology, pathology, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, geriatrics, pharmacology, and toxicology—the same or more than many medical schools. The education never ends for Dr. Baugher, who is always attending seminars and learning new ways to help health-conscious Denton-area residents.
About one-third of his patients are over 65 years old, but Dr. Baugher also specializes in the treatment of pregnant women and children. “The gentle chiropractic adjustments work great for making labor go smoother,” he said, adding that the gentle treatments he offers are also perfect for children. Part of the allure of his practice is the family atmosphere. He is an excellent listener who loves the opportunity to meet those seeking better health and discussing their specific health challenge.
The Spinal Decompression & Chiropractic Center continues to grow, and Dr. Charles Laughlin joined the practice last summer. While Dr. Baugher came to be a chiropractor due to his mother’s experiences, Dr. Laughlin was first introduced to chiropractic care by his father, Dr. William Laughlin. “While he was in chiropractic school and upon graduation, he would adjust my spine to help me stay healthy,” said Dr. Laughlin. “I would bounce back quickly from illnesses, thanks to each adjustment!”
