Regina Spencer, LCSW, was destined to become a therapist.
Her dad and stepmom were mental-health counselors in Kentucky schools, and Regina Spencer recognized the significant impact they made on the lives of the children they helped and their families. Following their footsteps, Regina Spencer became a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) and opened her private practice in the Bluegrass state.
After Regina Spencer and her husband moved to Texas to give their son, a competitive figure skater, more opportunities, she began planning her new practice in Houston. It didn’t take her long to see the community’s great need for high-quality mental health care accessible to more people. Instead of working as a solo practitioner, Regina Spencer created Spencer & Associates Therapeutic Alliance and began adding experienced, hand-picked therapists to the practice.
One of the barriers to people seeking help is the notion that therapy is always a long, drawn-out process where you lay on a couch and talk about every childhood experience,” Regina Spencer explains. “Often, therapy is a short-term solution that helps you get through things and problem solve.”
“The community was underserved even before COVID-19 hit, especially its geriatric residents, and the need for high-quality mental health care has grown due to the pandemic,” Regina Spencer says. “Spencer & Associates Therapeutic Alliance is here to help you find a path forward.”
Here to Help, Not to Judge
Serving individuals, couples, and families, everyone is welcome at Spencer & Associates Therapeutic Alliance. The practice’s experienced, diverse team of therapists give “1000 percent” to help clients become happier, healthier, and able to handle the issues that led them to seek help.
“We want our clients to get what they need out of therapy, and everyone is different,” Regina Spencer says. “We customize our approach to each client using traditional and alternative therapies, as well as provide support, offer advice, and act as a sounding board.” The practice offers a complete array of therapy services, including strength-based therapy, which focuses more on your internal strengths and resourcefulness versus weaknesses, failures, and shortcomings.
Mental Health During the Pandemic
“Even people who are normally balanced and happy with their lives are affected by changes brought on by COVID-19. More people than ever are in crisis or hovering on the edge of crisis, unsure what to do or where to turn,” Regina Spencer shares. “COVID-19 has made us more isolated and anxious, including younger people who are relying on social media as their primary form of interaction. We’re here to help you get through this. You don’t have to feel alone and wondering how you will continue to cope.”

Insurance Accepted. Sliding Fee Scale for the Uninsured.
Many therapists don’t take insurance or offer sliding scale fees based on income. This isn’t the case at Spencer & Associates Therapeutic Alliance. “I firmly believe everyone should have access to quality therapy services,” Regina Spencer says. The practice accepts most major medical insurance plans as well as some Medicaid and Medicare. If you don’t have insurance coverage, private pay with sliding scale fees is available.
