Specialized Women’s Healthcare

Specialized Woman's Healthcare SD 3-16 Prof FP_WEBWhether you’re a young woman, a new or expectant mom, a maturing senior or somewhere in between, Drs. Jenelle Watts and Melinda Spooner offer Specialized Women’s Healthcare every step of the way.

“Women tend to neglect their health in favor of their families or their jobs. We want to make sure that doesn’t happen,” Dr. Spooner said. “With new patients, I like to find out what’s happening in their personal lives, listen to their concerns and address any issues they have.”

As working mothers, both doctors know firsthand the problems and perils women face when they try to do and have it all. Couple those demands with changes to insurance policies, and it’s easy to see why many women put off their exams and screenings.

“When you focus on wellness—eating right, exercising, getting enough sleep—it helps you minimize stress,” said Dr. Watts. “You can’t do anything about your genetics, but you can change your lifestyle to help you live your best life.”

With insurance deductibles skyrocketing, it’s important to have a healthcare advocate. “Our office staff helps our patients understand their coverage so there are no surprises,” Dr. Watts said, “and we encourage patients to take an active role—to know what labs are in-network, watch their statements—so additional costs aren’t incurred.”

Drs. Spooner and Watts started their partnership in 2005 after covering on-calls for each other’s solo practices. They moved to their larger office in 2010 and have enjoyed watching their patient population go through life stages along with them.

“I love hearing a patient say their appointment was smooth and seamless,” Dr. Spooner said. “This starts when they call and reach a live, friendly accommodating person. We allow time with our appointments so patients don’t feel rushed. Patients often say it’s the first time a doctor really listened to them.”

Specialized Women’s Healthcare is also pleased to offer office-based, same-day procedures in addition to surgical services in area hospitals. Of course, prenatal, childbirth and post-natal care is a highlight of their careers. “Taking care of women as they expand their families is special to us both,” said Dr. Watts.
