Millions of Americans suffer each year from chronic or debilitating back and neck pain; some also have numbness and weakness in their arms or legs, making it difficult for them to enjoy even the simplest daily activities. Most suffer in silence for fear of being misunderstood or urged to undergo invasive surgeries with long recovery periods.

Shah Siddiqi, M.D., founder and director of the Texas Spine Center, is dedicated to helping his patients find the ideal treatment for their spinal condition. He believes in a more conservative and comprehensive approach, which addresses a patient’s physical, emotional and cognitive needs. “We provide a variety of treatments for our patients, including minimally invasive surgeries for disc disease, spinal stenosis, spinal injuries, sciatica and chronic back & neck pain,” said Dr. Siddiqi. “Involving our patients in the decision making of their care is essential for a successful treatment plan. Most importantly, we want to find the real, underlying condition that the patient has in order to get the best
outcome.”

Meet Dr. Shah Siddiqi

Dr. Siddiqi is a Spine specialist with over 27 years’ experience. He is a graduate of Cambridge University Medical School and board certified in Neurosurgery. Dr. Siddiqi completed his neurosurgery residency and a spinal surgery fellowship at the University of Toronto. He is a clinical member of the Methodist Research Institute and an appointed Assistant Professor of Clinical Neurosurgery in the Department of Neurosurgery, Houston Methodist Hospital. Dr. Siddiqi has published in several spine surgery and neurosurgery journals and textbooks and has received many national and regional awards in his field.

Dr. Siddiqi and his family moved to Houston from London, England, in 1979. He is married with three children; two are currently in Texas medical schools, and his youngest daughter is a freshman at the University of Texas in Austin. Away from the office, he enjoys playing golf, tennis, cricket and traveling to Europe, Asia and various parts of North America. “One of my favorite places is Andalusia in Southern Spain, where history and architectural beauty merge, and you can still see the Roman roads and Moorish gardens,” said Dr. Siddiqi.

Patient Focused

Dr. Siddiqi’s primary focus is to start with conservative care. “By listening to a patient’s concerns and discussing the risks and benefits of different treatments, we can improve their symptoms and determine a treatment plan,” said Dr. Siddiqi. “I begin by discussing lifestyle changes, physical therapy and exercise choices, pain management or spinal injections before we consider surgical alternatives. When surgery is appropriate, I usually review the most minimally invasive surgery options with the patient, such as microscopic surgery, laser surgery and image guided robotic surgery. Our goal is to help patients spend less time in surgery, experience shorter recovery times, have smaller incisions and less pain. This allows them to return to an active, normal lifestyle much earlier.”

The professionals at Texas Spine Center work closely as a team, along with their patients’ primary care physicians, radiologists, physical therapists and internists, to provide a holistic approach to care. “We make it a priority to provide the best, most cutting-edge care,” said Dr. Siddiqi. “We also offer a free MRI review for our patients. Our goal is for patients to be well informed about their conditions.”

Texas Spine Center has a state-of-the-art facility with a well-qualified, friendly and compassionate staff. “We have four convenient locations and use the best surgical facilities,” said Dr. Siddiqi. “Our Northwest office location is opposite Methodist Hospital at Willowbrook. Because we have experience handling both simple and complex conditions with excellent outcomes, we have patients coming to see us from all areas of Texas and out of state. Most of our staff is fluent in both English and Spanish.”

Dr. Siddiqi has a special interest in minimally invasive and complex spine surgeries. He also treats sports injuries, having treated high-profile professional athletes such as former Houston Rocket Tracy McGrady and former Miami Dolphins wide receiver Mark Clayton. “I enjoy working with athletes,” said Dr. Siddiqi. “I love their competitive spirit. It makes us all better.”

Texas Spine Center accepts most insurances and also has the most affordable plans for patients without insurance. For a complete list of practice locations or to learn more about available treatments, go to TexasSpineCenter.com.
