Did you know mental health and physical health are deeply inter-connected? Licensed Professional Counselors Tiffany Priska and Nicole Bankhead, owners of Serenity Wellness and Counseling Center, understand the importance of this connection and the benefits of treating them together. The two have created a comprehensive, collaborative approach to address these issues, focused on healing the body from the inside out. They integrate yoga, nutrition and diet, and individualized therapy provided by licensed professional counselors and certified specialists. Their ultimate goal is to help each individual achieve and maintain their best self and full potential.
Providing personalized initial consultations with a certified therapist is an important emphasis at Serenity. When a potential client calls, they speak directly with either Tiffany or Nicole. “This ensures we allow each client to be matched with a therapist that best suits their overall needs with personalities that will mesh,” explains Nicole. From there, they determine if that individual could also benefit from nutrition counseling and/or yoga. All therapy and additional modalities are geared toward an individual’s health and overall wellness.
Serenity’s counselors work with people in all phases of life, from children three years of age to adolescents, adults, and couples. Their team consists of certified specialists in the areas of play therapy, nutrition, couples and family therapy, cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), Eye Movement, Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), suicidality, eating disorders, trauma, mood disorders, and yoga. Individual yoga sessions focus on mindfulness, mental health wellness, and healing from traumatic life events.
Serenity’s therapists work closely with clients to uncover and address challenging issues and underlying causes that prevent them from being the person they desire to be. New thought patterns are created, facilitating positive behaviors that will help them move forward with confidence.
Evidence-based Therapy by Licensed Professional Counselors
Located in Cypress, Texas, Serenity Wellness and Counseling Center is one of the few centers specializing in eating disorders, suicidality, trauma, teen substance abuse, and mood disorders. They believe in and adhere to evidenced-based therapy that is backed by research and proven to be highly effective. “Our evidence-based therapists have specialized training in particular focus areas of counseling and therapy,” Nicole says. “Ongoing education enhances our knowledge while keeping current on the latest information in our respective fields of expertise,” Tiffany adds.
The Mind-body Connection
“How we fuel our bodies is an important clue to determining mental health and physical wellness,” Tiffany says. Serenity’s certified dietician and yoga instructors offer help and guidance in not only mental thought processes, but also dysfunctional eating habits. Research has proven that educating clients on intuitive eating empowers them to “make peace with food.” To promote the mind-body connection, Serenity also offers clients yoga.
Going the Extra Mile
Serenity’s team of licensed therapists and certified dietary and yoga professionals are dedicated to offering an environment that goes beyond simply providing relief. They empower their clients with the knowledge and skills needed to create and maintain a positive, lasting change in their lives. “Creating a place where all clients can feel safe and accepted in an ever-changing world is a top priority,” says Tiffany.
All of the amazing professionals at Serenity are available for both in person and video conferencing sessions. For those who want to come in person, Serenity has enhanced their safety and sanitization measures as well as practicing social distancing at their facility.
