Helping students discover the joy of learning is what Sandy Tutwiler does best. She is the owner and educational consultant for Tutor Doctor in Frisco and McKinney, where she offers online and in-person tutoring for kids who are homeschooled or attend public or private school.

Her success boils down to one thing — she loves what she does. “I love kids, and I’m passionate about learning,” she explained. “I want them to be successful and happy, which is why I love what I do.”

Tutwiler worked as a tutor in high school and college before getting a job at a Fortune 500 company. After 25 years, she took an early retirement to focus on her passion of helping kids, and she hasn’t regretted it once.

Three years later — while adjusting to the COVID-19 pandemic — Tutwiler has helped students of all grade levels in Frisco, McKinney, Little Elm, Aubrey, Plano, and Wylie. She tailors her lessons to support what the child is learning in school. “It makes my heart happy to see kids finding their feet and achieving their goals,” she said.

Another thing that makes her happy? Giving back to the community, which she now has the flexibility to do. She volunteers at a rotary club and serves on the Board of Education Foundation in Little Elm ISD, where she loves watching teachers receive grants for classroom innovations, saying, “there have been presentations from recipients that bring me to tears.”
