Introducing Dr. Michael Guirguis
Last year, we introduced you to a team of dental professionals who have such a rapport with their patients that folks travel back for their care, even after they’ve relocated as far away as Florida, New York, Korea, Belgium, and elsewhere. Well, things got even better this year for patients of Richardson Dentistry with the addition of Michael Guirguis, DDS, brother of Dr. James S. Guirguis. Take a moment to meet this dedicated dental professional.
Meet Dr. Michael Guirguis
Michael was born and raised in Ireland and England, before his family relocated to Cleveland, Ohio. Growing up with a dentist uncle and physician parents, a medical career was always in the back of his mind.
“I started college majoring in finance,” he said. “But the thought of a life behind a desk with little human contact changed my mind. The examples of my uncle and parents showed me that through medicine I could impact lives.”
Michael went on to complete his undergraduate studies at Miami University of Oxford, Ohio and dental school at Ohio State. Then, as they say, he wasn’t born in Texas but got here as quickly as he could, completing his residency at Baylor. He practiced for a time in the Lakewood area, before joining his brother, James, and Dr. Brent Fleming at Richardson Dentistry.
“Dentistry is a perfect fit for me because every day is different,” he said. “It’s gratifying to help people and to change the stigma of dentistry by really slowing down to listen to my patients; doing whatever I can to take the fear out of a trip to the dentist. And being able to share my passion with my brother is a double blessing.”
He found the existing philosophy at Richardson Dentistry dovetailed perfectly with his own. “No patient is just a chart, a set of teeth, or ‘the next patient’ to us. The best part of our job is getting to know each patient individually. And our philosophy is always, ‘Do what’s best for the patient’. We also share a passion for continuing education. We log many times the number of continuing education hours required of us (80 to 100 a year) and belong to a dental study club where we meet twice a month with 60 to 80 other doctors, bring in dental speakers from all over the world, and participate in complex dental planning sessions.
“And now that there are three dentists, we’re allowed more time with each patient. Whether it’s on the doctor side, hygiene side, or in consults (in person or on the phone) we can give each patient the time they need. And with six hygienists on staff, everyone in the family can have their teeth cleaned at once.”
Richardson Dentistry offers general and cosmetic dentistry including state-of-the-art technology such as same-day crowns, digital X-rays, intraoral camera, and soft tissue lasers. They are now accepting new patients.
