Dr. Plott’s path to becoming an internationally acclaimed leader in dermatology started when he was a boy growing up in Lubbock, Texas. Nurturing his love for medicine, he took night classes to become an EMT while a sophomore in high school. By his junior year, he had satisfied all the course work to be a paramedic. During his senior year, Dr. Plott was an orderly at Lubbock’s St. Mary’s Hospital. He went on to work in an E.R. in college and decided to specialize in dermatology after he met a dynamic and influential dermatologist and Mohs surgeon.
National Recognition, Exceptional Training
Given his love for medicine and drive to excel, it’s not surprising Dr. Plott’s leadership in dermatology began before he finished medical school. He won national recognition for his research on vitiligo while earning a medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. After completing an internship followed by a residency in dermatology at the University of Arkansas Health Sciences, he continued his training at the National Cancer Institute in Bethesda, Maryland. There, he trained with some of the nation’s best clinicians and researchers working on the frontier of dermatologic medicine.

Not only does Dr. Plott stay up-to-date on the latest advances, he is at the forefront of some of the most current thinking in skin care. With over 30 years of experience, his credentials include the National Institutes of Health (NIH), one of the world’s foremost medical research centers.
He spent 16 years in the research and development of pharmacologic drugs, is named as the inventor on five patents, and led the development of several topical and oral prescription products used
by dermatologists today, including Solodyn extended-release capsules.
Dr. Plott also contributed on the effort to bring the popular dermal filler Restylane, to the U.S. market, then served as the medical officer for Restylane until 2008. Most recently, Dr. Plott was appointed to the FDA’s Dermatologic and Opthamalogic Drug Advisory Committee.
