This is the story of a golfer. Practically born with a nine iron in his hand, he planned his life around the hours he could spend on the greens. Then a condition known as plantar fasciitis threatened to end his favorite pastime. He endured cortisone injections in his feet. He clomped around in a therapeutic “boot.” He invested in special shoe inserts. Nothing helped. Finally he was told that surgery was his only option for relieving what had become unbearable pain. Then a friend introduced him to the doctors of Premier Foot and Ankle, Drs. Jaryl G. Korpinen, DPM and Katy Freeland, DPM. Five treatments with Dr. Korpinen’s Extracorporeal Pulse Activation Treatment later, he is pain-free and back on the golf course.
Nonsurgical Help for Plantar Fasciitis
“Plantar fasciitis is the most common cause of foot and heel pain,” Dr. Korpinen said. “I offer two outstanding treatments with success rates of over 85 percent. Pulse-activation EPAT (Extracorporeal Pulse Activation Treatment) uses energy waves to heal plantar fascia. Podiatherm uses radio frequency waves to stop the pain.” These nonsurgical in-office treatments allow patients to resume their normal activities the same day.
Noninvasive Treatment for Achilles Tendonitis
This is a story of a runner. Nothing in life could overwhelm her, as long as she had a nice long run morning and night to clear her head and process the day. Then she developed Achilles tendonitis and running become too painful. It did, that is, until she took her condition to Premier Foot and Ankle.
“The EPAT can also be used for other muscle and tendon problems such as Achilles tendonitis,” Dr. Korpinen said. “It has helped many professional athletes and weekend warriors get back in the game.”
Laser Therapy for Toenail Fungus
Dr. Korpinen also offers laser treatment for nail fungus. “Instead of taking drugs and applying topical treatments for an extended period, laser treatment takes roughly 10 minutes per treatment for three months,” he said. “Patients report a minimum of discomfort (basically a warm sensation), as the laser channels heat in the form of light, to treat not just the surface but also remove fungus from the nail bed. It doesn’t harm skin or toenail; only treats the fungus.”
Frisco Running Co.
A runner himself, Dr. Korpinen has long recommended better footwear as the answer for heading off, even correcting, many running-related issues. It was the next logical step for him to open Frisco Running Co., a running specialty store, where his patients find not only the best in running shoes, clothes, sunglasses, headbands, monitors, and nutrition but also can have their gait analyzed to see which equipment will serve them best. “Different foot types require different shoes,” Dr. Korpinen said. “Running, walking, or cross-training in the wrong shoes can lead to injury. Our gait analysis, through the Gait Lab program, technologically evaluates your run and fits you to the shoe that’s going to serve the way you run and walk.”
Premier Foot and Ankle is accepting new patients at all three locations.
