Want to know how a pediatrician’s office can better serve their patient population? Ask moms and dads and other caregivers. That’s exactly what the doctors of Pearland Pediatrics did. Then they made some innovative changes. They began with a new mom interview, taking the time to sit with each mom-to-be, getting to know her and answering any and all questions. Then they make visits to the hospital (seven area hospitals, in fact) to see each newborn after birth and begin their care from day one.
Help with Breastfeeding
On Baby’s first visit to the office, each new mom is afforded not just time with the pediatrician but a 40-minute block of time with an in-house lactation counselor, who’s also available to come to the family’s home, when requested. This extra time has helped Pearland Pediatrics moms feel so much more confident about their breastfeeding, that it has helped them successfully nurse for the first 12 months. Plans are currently underway to convert two of the doctors’ private offices into lactation rooms, decorated in a soothing nursery vibe with comfy rockers for nursing moms.
But perhaps the most welcome change will be coming on April first of this year: an onsite walk-in clinic for sick patients. Say your child has been up all night crying and is running a fever. In the past, you had the option of calling for an appointment and taking whatever you could get, even several hours away, or taking him to the emergency room to be seen by a stranger. With the new walk-in clinic, you can head straight to Pearland Pediatric and have your child seen in a familiar environment. There will be a doctor in the clinic at all times, plus two to three pediatric-trained nurse practitioners, including one who has ER experience.
The clinic offers extended hours, including early mornings, late evenings and Saturdays. There is a doctor on call 24/7/365 and a pediatric-trained registered nurse just a phone call away. Thanks to Pearland Pediatrics’ new walk-in clinic, your child can be seen at his medical home, even for emergencies, where his records are readily available and where he already feels comfortable.
Newborn Waiting Room
Also on the horizon at Pearland Pediatric is a separate, designated waiting area for newborns, so you don’t have to take your new little one into a waiting room with children who might be contagious. It’s also an area where you can meet other new moms and talk about the things most important to you, at this wonderful yet demanding time of life.
Pearland Pediatrics has just been awarded “Medical Home” status. A medical home has been described as “a model for achieving primary care excellence so that care is received in the right place, at the right time and in the manner that best suits a patient’s needs.” It means that Pearland Pediatrics complies with a philosophy of primary care that’s patient-centered, comprehensive, team-based, coordinated, accessible and focused on quality and safety; that they meet patients where they are, from the most simple to the most complex conditions; that they treat patients with respect, dignity, and compassion, enabling strong and trusting provider/patient relationships.
Pearland Pediatrics offers a full array of services to help your child maintain good health, from newborn through the school years.

For the past 25 years, the physicians and staff of Pearland Pediatrics have given back to the community in many ways, including manning the sidelines of local sporting events and providing local high school trainers with their cell phone numbers, in case there’s ever a question about one of their athletes. They support many local nonprofits by walking and running in 5Ks, sponsor local sports teams and make donations to local charities.
If you’re searching for a new medical home for your child, you’ll find Pearland Pediatric a warm, welcoming place. Doctors and staff don’t dress in sterile, white coats but casual ‘Mom and Dad’ attire. Many of the staff members have been with the practice for years and enjoy a friendly rapport with patients and their families. Their 10,000-square-foot facility offers most of the services your child will need, including sports medicine, X-rays, full on-site lab services, splinting, casting, treatment for lacerations and abscesses and more.
