They’ve Got Your Back
North Texas Brain & Spine Specialists is a practice founded on the principles of innovative neurosurgical care combined with skill and experience. Dr. Jean Louis Benae combines his extensive experience, compassion and the latest technology to provide patients with convenient access to high-quality neurosurgical care. “At my practice, we believe that providing high-quality care is not only about the medical advice that we dispense, but more importantly, the relationships we have with our patients,” Dr. Benae said. “We continue to strive to be a leader in innovative medical practices because you don’t have to live in pain.”
By educating and listening to his patients, and working closely with other healthcare providers, Dr. Benae is very thorough in his care. “I want to be the first doctor a patient sees if they are experiencing neck or back pain,” the doctor shared. By being involved early on, and overseeing treatments every step of the way, Dr. Benae can get to the root of the problem and work with the patient to determine which therapies are the most beneficial. “Pain can come from many different sources and it is most important to find out why it’s happening in order to develop the best plan of care.”
Dr. Benae approaches spine care using a comprehensive care model combining the least invasive techniques with the most effective, proven treatments available, specifically tailored for each patient. The board certified neurosurgeon and minimally-invasive spine specialist strives for a conservative approach whenever possible to boost his patients’ comfort and peace of mind. Each case is diagnosed and treated with the utmost accuracy, guided by his extensive experience and versatility with complex spine disorders. And patients want this approach to their care, Dr. Benae has learned. “Patients want a neurosurgeon to find a problem, provide various treatment modalities, and closely monitor which one works and which one doesn’t. This is the next level of neurosurgery.”
Dr. Benae believes that his cutting-edge facility boosts his comprehensive treatment of patients to the next level of care. “We can now offer additional onsite services including physical therapy and advanced X-rays. This is invaluable to the patient’s healing because we can watch them more regularly and more closely to see how they are progressing. And it could help ward off any potential issues that may arise.”
Minimally Invasive Pain Management
Millions of people live with chronic back and neck pain, which can affect not only the back and neck, but other parts of the body including the hips, arms, and legs—which can contribute to general all-over body pain. For many people living with chronic pain, finding pain relief can be tough. A lot of trial and error is involved to find a pain treatment that works, but Dr. Benae is dedicated to educating his patients about their disease process and assisting with choices of effective non-surgical treatment modalities and interventional therapies. If necessary, and when indicated, a patient will be offered the latest in minimally invasive spine surgery.
“Many patients have benefitted greatly from minimally invasive spine surgery, enjoying faster recovery times and a substantially reduced amount of pain and scarring, and my professional staff has a great deal of experience in this advanced surgical technique,” Dr. Benae shared. Since minimally invasive spine surgery does not require the long incisions associated with traditional open surgery, the muscles surrounding the spine suffer far less trauma. “As with any surgical procedure, however, we will not recommend minimally invasive spine surgery until we have exhausted all non-surgical alternatives such as physical therapy and medications.”
Meet Dr. Benae
Born in Cameroon, and raised in France, Dr. Benae came to the United States at the age of 20 to attend the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). He pursued a degree in Physiological Sciences and graduated with honors. He continued his education at the David Geffen UCLA School of Medicine, where he obtained his Doctorate in Medicine. During his graduate medical education, his fascination for neuroscience led him to a neurotrauma research fellowship with the UCLA Brain Injury Research Center. “The brain makes us who we are,” the doctor explained. “It’s complex and not as well understood as other body organs.”
After completing his research fellowship, Dr. Benae began his neurosurgery specialty training at the Medical College of Wisconsin Affiliated Hospitals in Milwaukee. Throughout his extensive training and professional experience, Dr. Benae has accrued remarkable versatility with complex spine and minimally invasive spine surgery.
Giving Back to Others
Dr. Benae is dedicated to sharing his knowledge and helping those in need. He strives to be active in his local community through participation in health fairs and free educational seminars, and has organized multiple medical missions to various developing countries. In fact, the neurosurgeon is already looking ahead to his next mission trip this summer. “I’ll spend nine days in central Africa performing surgeries for those who wouldn’t otherwise have the opportunity to have them. It’s important for me to do this kind of work because it keeps me passionate and grounded about what I do.” The doctor also often sends much-needed medical equipment back to his native Cameroon.
Dr. Benae has always had a passion for growth and challenges in his life and knows that he is in a unique position with his particular skillset. “I do what I do because it gives me joy to see my patients feel better. I love being a part of their lives and using the resources, education, and tools that I have in order to help others.”
North Texas Brain & Spine Specialists is currently accepting new patients with back pain, neck pain, spinal disorders, brain disorders, or peripheral nerve pain. “If you are experiencing problems, my outstanding medical team will utilize the latest medical techniques to properly diagnose and treat your condition,” Dr. Benae shared.
