New Year, New Focus

[adrotate banner=”38″]

Find the Power to Lose the Weight…for Good! It’s time. No more excuses. This is the year you take your power back. Or maybe find it for the first time. You’re going to gain control over your health and weight. To finally look and feel the way you want to. For good! What will you need to make it happen? Focus. That’s right. You’re going to need more than a little of that good stuff if you’re going to identify, develop, execute and maintain a plan for lasting weight loss. There are many components to a successful weight loss journey. From goal-setting and accountability to plain, old-fashioned hard work, you’re going to have to dig deep, stay committed even when it’s not easy – especially when it’s not easy – and find the support you need to succeed.

First Things First

Anyone who has struggled and tried (and tried and struggled) to lose weight understands what a challenge it can be. Here are a few things to keep in mind if you are working toward achieving and maintaining a healthier weight this year:

1. Diet – There’s no way around it. What you put in your mouth will play a huge role in your
weight loss. Adopting a new eating style that promotes weight loss should include
lowering your total calorie intake, reducing sugar, processed foods and unhealthy carbs.
Start by eating more plant-based foods — fruits, vegetables and whole grains. Learn to
love lean protein. Strive for variety to help you achieve your goals without giving up taste
or nutrition.

2. Accountability – Don’t go it alone! Accountability is a powerful secret weapon on the
weight loss journey. Having a partner with the same (or similar) goals will give you
someone to connect with, trade ideas with, share motivation, support and
encouragement. Plus, you might think twice about eating that candy bar if you have to
confess it to someone later.

3. Exercise – While it is possible to lose weight without exercise, regular physical activity in
concert with a healthy diet can give you a real weight-loss edge. Exercise can help burn
off the excess calories you can’t cut through diet alone and also offers several health
benefits, including boosting your mood, strengthening your cardiovascular system and
reducing your blood pressure.

Find the Support You Need to Get (and maintain!) the Results You Want

If you’ve tried everything on your own and still battle your weight, a reputable medical weight loss practice can partner with you, bringing the focused support you need on your weight loss journey. Whether you need to lose a little or you need to lose a lot, an experienced, compassionate clinical team can help you get there. One focused step at a time.

“Lasting weight loss is not a one-time treatment,” says Folahan Ayoola, MD, of Weight Loss Specialists of North Texas. “It is a lifetime commitment and requires lifestyle changes, education, and accountability.”

Just like no two people are exactly alike, weight loss is not a one-size-fits-all scenario. One way that medical experts like Dr. Ayoola address this reality is by offering many different options for safe and lasting weight loss. With so many tools available (some surgical and some not), it’s important to look at each individual as a whole before determining what will work best for that person individually.

You don’t have to continue living your life feeling defeated. You can lose the weight, regain your health, improve your quality of life and feel great about yourself. New year, new focus. Now get out there and crush those goals!
