Mint Dentistry

Mint Dentistry (Dr. Mahdawi) MAN SD Profile 16-3_WEBFor Dr. Reema Mahdawi of Mint Dentistry, South Arlington, being a dentist is about the people. She has always been an avid volunteer, and it was through volunteering that she discovered her passion for dentistry. She made up her mind to embark on the path to a dental career when she realized how much of a difference it would allow her to make. “When I was volunteering for Mission Arlington, I was given the opportunity to work in a dental clinic,” she remembered. “After seeing how many people were in need of dental care and how even the smallest things like cleanings or extractions could drastically increase their quality of life, I knew that dentistry was for me.”

Dr. Mahdawi’s compassion is the first thing you’ll notice about her. Her face lights up when she talks about the difference she’s able to make in caring for her patients. “I love preventative dentistry,” she says. “Simply explaining oral biology to people in a way that makes sense can make a world of difference. I also love cosmetic dentistry for its ability to give people more confidence and happier smiles.”

When Dr. Mahdawi talks about her job, her sincerity is unmistakable. She describes the way she makes a point of being compassionate with every person who sits in her chair. “Compassion is something I aim to express with every soul I encounter,” she says. “When a patient comes in, I don’t know where they’ve come from, what experiences they’ve endured, what makes them who they are, so I do whatever I can to treat them as I would treat my own mother.”

This compassion has not gone unnoticed. The South Arlington branch of Mint Dentistry was voted “Best Dentist in Arlington” by Consumers Choice, and Dr. Mahdawi and her peers at South Arlington Mint Dentistry were nominated by Arlington Living Magazine as “Outstanding Dentists.”

Dr. Reema Mahdawi has always been an avid volunteer. While completing her undergraduate degree from the University of Texas at Arlington, where she graduated summa cum laude with a degree in biological sciences, she spent her free time tutoring junior high and high school students. This was also when she got involved with Mission Arlington. As she went on to earn her doctorate of dental surgery at Baylor College of Dentistry, she remained active in the community. Dr. Mahdawi is currently a member of the American Dental Association, the Academy of General Dentistry, and the Texas Dental Association. She continues to actively volunteer at Mission Arlington, at her local mosque, and at the Irving Dental Clinic.

Dr. Mahdawi’s signature compassion spills over into her personal life, as well. “I come from a really big family, which I love,” she says. “Most of my family lives overseas, and sometimes I can’t resist taking time off to visit them and catch up on sometimes years’ worth of events!” She also loves to practice boxing, but, according to her, “I have never actually had to use my skills, which is great!”
