At the forefront of interventional psychiatry, Dr. Adebogun is highly experienced with TMS (transcranial magnetic stimulation), successfully treating many patients suffering from treatment-resistant depression. “TMS stimulates the part of the brain involved in emotion and mood with short pulses of magnetic energy, increasing activity of local neurons. It’s a safe and effective treatment for many suffering from chronic depression, with none of the side effects of prescription medications.”

Nexstim TMS applies targeted, noninvasive brain stimulation to help improve a patient’s mental health over time. Treatment involves using an MRI to pinpoint and individualize the stimulation dose.

After thorough patient evaluation, Dr. Adebogun’s treatment options include evidence-based psychopharmacology to help reduce a potential trial and error scenario with different antidepressants. “We use genetic and non-genetic patient-specific information, science, and progressive technology to help narrow down population groups that are more or less likely to respond to a medication and any accompanying side effects,” he says.

Dr. Adebogun also uses proven, newer medications to treat depression. “Ketamine holds real promise for patients with severe depression,” he explains. “It assists in repairing neuron synapses that typically don’t function properly in the brains of depressed patients.”
