ADD/ADHD IN-OFFICE TESTING, COMPREHENSIVE TREATMENT APPROACH
Dr. Forbes is MD Pediatric Association’s behavioral ADHD provider at its Flower Mound office, which now administers the quotient test for this condition. Prior to her joining the practice, patients had to drive to the Coppell office to receive this type of specialized testing.
“ADD affects both home and social life, which includes school, Scouts, clubs and sports activities,” Dr. Forbes said. “I take all of this into account when developing a treatment plan with my families. I’m excited about using a team approach and guidelines developed by the American Academy of Pediatrics and Cincinnati Children’s, designed to diagnose, manage and monitor ADD and ADHD. Using this system, we are able to input information from the patient, family and teachers, which promotes an investment from all parties involved to ensure the student’s success.”
ASTHMA AND A COMMITMENT TO TREATMENT PLANS
Having witnessed first-hand the frightening and sometimes devastating effects of asthma in children, Dr. Forbes is committed to making sure that families have the tools—medication, equipment and most importantly, an asthma action plan—to ensure their children’s asthma is optimally controlled.
“I am committed to making sure that the families I work with have these tools in place so that children don’t suffer needlessly,” she said.
A CULTURAL UNDERSTANDING TO HEALTH CARE
Dr. Forbes’ experience at her previous practice equipped her with an understanding of multicultural health care. She has had extensive exposure to the varying dynamics and different diseases unique to specific cultures. For example, she has a special interest in early treatment of sickle cell anemia, which, thanks to today’s universal newborn screening, can be more effectively controlled for greater life expectancy.
Through observations and daily interactions with such high-risk patients, as well as various cultures’ beliefs and preferences when caring for their children, Dr. Forbes has developed a full-spectrum perspective on how certain diseases and cultural differences can best be acknowledged, addressed and treated.
ABOUT DR. MICHELLE FORBES

An avid reader, one of her greatest passions in life is promoting childhood literacy. Dr. Forbes hopes to start a chapter here in the near future.
