Surgery today is nothing like the fearsome last-resort it was in the past. Modern medical advancements and techniques make surgery a mere bump in the road. And the doctors at Methodist Mansfield Minimally Invasive Surgical Associates go a step forward to make their patients’ experiences as seamless as possible. Drs. Joshua Trussel and Andrew Standerwick embody the clinic’s motto, “Healing through surgery. Helping with recovery.”
Drs. Stankderwick and Trussel have been extensively trained in minimally-invasive surgical techniques to reduce their patients’ pain and recovery time. With techniques, such as laparoscopic surgery and robotic surgery, the risk of complications plummets and patient discomfort is greatly reduced, as is scarring, risk of infection, and trauma to surrounding tissue.
The Surgeons of Methodist Mansfield
Minimally Invasive Surgical Associates offer procedures for a wide range of conditions; including surgery for benign and malignant disease of the colon, and gallbladder, and the repair of various inguinal, ventral, and hiatal hernias. They further possess expertise in weight-loss surgeries; including bariatric procedures in the form of Roux-en-Y gastric bypass and laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy and always emphasize a minimally-invasive approach.
Meet Dr. Andrew Standerwick
Dr. Standerwick has a personal motto, just as straightforward as the man himself. “Do it right.” This simple mantra carried him through medical school at University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, his residency at University of Oklahoma College of Medicine, and his fellowship at Summa Akron City Hospital in Ohio and now guides him at his practice back home in Texas. On the job, he is a general surgeon specializing in bariatrics. Off the job he’s a running enthusiast and into all things hockey.
Dr. Joshua Trussell
Dr. Trussel emphasizes that surgery is not a one-size-fits-all treatment. “I strive to learn each patient’s needs as well as possible and then tailor my approach to fit their specific situation,” he said. As a general surgeon, he performs a wide range of procedures, and specializes in hernia treatment. “I take hernia treatment very seriously and follow my hernia patients’ recovery throughout their lives,” he says.
Robotic surgery options have made hernia repair a much safer and simpler procedure than ever before, and Dr. Trussel takes care to stay on top of the latest technological advancements in the field. Dr. Trussel is a proud Mansfield native, and after medical school at University of Texas Health Science Center’s Houston School of Medicine and his surgical residency at Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center in Phoenix, he was quick to return home to settle down. He loves his job, is a proud member of the American Hernia Society Quality Collaborative, and volunteers with the physician’s assistant school. But his favorite roles are loving husband to his wife and devoted father to their three little ones.
