Gone are the days when surgery meant weeks—even months—of recovery, unsightly scars, fear of infection and other complications. Thankfully, surgeons like Joshua Trussell, MD, and Andrew Standerwick, MD, are now able to perform minimally-invasive surgery with much less assault on the body and stress to the patient—not to mention better precision and greatly improved outcomes. Their guiding motto at Methodist Mansfield Minimally Invasive Surgical Associates is, “Healing through surgery. Helping with recovery.”
Extensively trained in minimally-invasive surgical techniques such as laparoscopic and robotic surgery, Drs. Standerwick and Trussell offer procedures for a wide range of conditions; including surgery for benign and malignant disease of the colon and gallbladder and the repair of various inguinal, ventral, and hiatal hernias. Experts in weight-loss surgeries—including Roux-en-Y gastric bypass and laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy—they always emphasize the least invasive approach possible.
Meet Dr. Andrew Standerwick
Dr. Standerwick’s personal motto of “Do it right!” carried him through medical school at University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, his residency at University of Oklahoma College of Medicine, and his fellowship at Summa Akron City Hospital in Ohio and now guides him at his practice back home in Texas. On the job, he’s a general surgeon specializing in bariatrics. Off the job he’s a running and hockey enthusiast.
Dr. Joshua Trussell
For Dr. Trussell surgery is never one-size-fits-all. “I strive to learn each patient’s needs then to tailor my approach to their specific situation,” he said. He performs a wide range of procedures specializing in hernia treatment. “I take hernia treatment seriously and follow my hernia patients’ recovery throughout their lives,” he said.
Robotic surgery options have made hernia repair safer and simpler than ever before and Dr. Trussell stays on top of the latest technological advancements in the field. Dr. Trussell is a proud Mansfield native. A graduate of University of Texas Health Science Center’s Houston School of Medicine, he completed a surgical residency at Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center in Phoenix. He is a member of the American Hernia Society Quality Collaborative and volunteers with the physician’s assistant school. But his favorite roles are loving husband and devoted father of three.
Methodist Mansfield Minimally Invasive Surgical Associates is owned and operated by Methodist Medical Group and is staffed by independently practicing physicians who are employees of Methodist Medical Group.
