Dr. Melanie Hafford is pleased to join Dr. R. Bernard Rochon in general surgery practice at the Medical and Surgical Clinic of Irving (MSCI.) Dr. Hafford specializes in bariatric and minimally invasive general surgery, including laparoscopic gastric bypass, sleeve gastrectomy, and anti-reflux operations.
MSCI is a comprehensive facility that has served the Irving community since 1953. Their state-of-the-art facility and commitment to patient health set them apart from other physician groups. Dr. Hafford joins MSCI as an expert in the care of bariatric and general surgery patients.
With a personal touch and compassion, Dr. Hafford engages her patients at the Medical and Surgical Clinic of Irving. Dr. Hafford understands that making the decision to seek bariatric surgery isn’t an easy one, and often comes with a lifetime of factors and habits that need to be addressed. Many of her patients are affected by Type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, osteoarthritis, infertility, and other medical conditions that are directly related to their obesity. Dr. Hafford helps her patients overcome morbid obesity with safe and effective weight loss operations such as the Roux-en-Y gastric bypass and sleeve gastrectomy. In addition to losing weight, her patients benefit from improvement and often resolution of their medical conditions as well as improvement in their overall wellness and quality of life.
“I like to provide my patients an evidence-based approach to weight loss,” says Dr. Hafford. “When tackling obesity, it’s not ‘one size fits all.’ Bariatric surgery is a tool to help patients lose weight, but to be successful we have to also address the medical aspects and lifestyle factors that have an important role in obesity as well. I want to ensure that my patients are given the best chance for long-term weight loss.”
Dr. Hafford also performs minimally invasive surgery including laparoscopic anti-reflux surgery, advanced endoscopy, and laparoscopic general surgery. In using a laparoscopic approach, the recovery time for her patients is significantly shortened, allowing them to return to their normal routines sooner.
Dr. Hafford received her undergraduate degree from Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, and her medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia. She completed her general surgery residency at the University of Texas Southwestern in 2012 and her bariatric and minimally invasive surgery fellowship at The Methodist Hospital in Houston in 2013. She is an active member in the Society of American and Gastrointestinal Surgeons (SAGES), the America College of Surgeons (ACS), and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS), and has been recognized on a national level for her achievements.
