Since 1991, MD Pediatric Associates has been treating children of all ages at their two state-of-the-art offices located in Coppell and Flower Mound. Their experienced team of pediatricians, nurse practitioners, and board-certified lactation consultant are committed to top-quality compassionate care for children from birth to age 18. The newest pediatrician to join their team is Dr. Vani Venkatachalam. Dr. Vani, as she is affectionately called, is full of energy and ready to accept new patients at the Coppell location.
Dr. Vani attended medical school at Andhra Medical College, NTR Medical University in India and completed her residency training at the Children’s Hospital of Richmond, Virginia Commonwealth University (Medical College of Virginia). After a year in fellowship training at University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, Children’s Medical Center in Dallas in pediatric hematology and oncology, Dr. Vani returned to general pediatrics. She is licensed to practice in Virginia (2013) and Texas (2015) and is board-certified in pediatrics.
Dr. Vani’s interests lie in treating universal pediatric conditions such as asthma, infections, and rare blood disorders. She explains that growing up in India, followed by her medical residency here in the United States, has given her a wealth of knowledge and experience in treating diverse populations. She understands and appreciates cultural aspects that relate to health and treatment.
When asked what made her choose pediatrics as her field of specialty, Dr. Vani replied, “I see children as having their own distinct entity. Many adult illnesses start in childhood. Early recognition and active intervention is vital. I firmly believe in treating children in a manner consistent with evidence-based medical practice.” She finds school-age children especially enjoyable to work with because of their potential, fun spirit, and energy. “With their ever-increasing activities and expectations, it is an important age to identify learning difficulties and behavioral health issues,” she added.
Dr. Vani sees MD Pediatric Associates as a very patient-centered practice. As a patient-centered medical home for your child, they empower you and your child to take care of health issues, while focusing on prevention of future medical problems. Regular well-child visits, vaccinations, and specialty care appointments are all part of this comprehensive approach, allowing them to build a long term trusting relationship with you and your child. “I love being a part of this team so much,” she said. “As a mom, I know how stressful it is when your child is sick. I like to treat the family as a whole and work with them in every possible way. The biggest time parents encounter problems is on the weekend. We’re here when you need us.”
In her spare time, Dr. Vani loves reading, music, singing, and playing the piano. She speaks four Indian languages: Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, and Kanada and volunteers at Chinmaya Mission teaching elementary school children every Sunday.
Dr. Vani, her husband, Karthik, and their energetic daughter, Kavya, have made Coppell their home and are always ready for life’s next adventure.
