MD Anderson in Sugar Land is backed by more than 70 years of experience in cancer treatment, diagnosis and research by one of the nation’s leading cancer centers. Every member of the team has extensive training in oncology, including physicians, surgeons, physician assistants, and advanced practice nurses. As a pioneer in cancer research, MD Anderson offers access to hundreds of therapies and clinical trials, many of which are available only at MD Anderson.

While MD Anderson in Sugar Land treats all types of cancer, the campus faculty has particular expertise in the diagnosis, treatment and management of:

  • breast cancer
  • gynecologic cancer
  • dermatology/skin cancer
  • head and neck cancer
  • lung cancer
  • gastrointestinal cancer
  • genitourinary cancer
  • colorectal cancer
  • reconstructive surgery

In addition to medical and radiation oncologists, surgeons and support staff, MD Anderson in Sugar Land offers experts to meet the specialized needs cancer patients may require, including pain specialists, dieticians, and physical and occupational therapists. A nurse navigator works closely with the center’s breast cancer patients to guide them through every step of their treatment process, making it as easy and convenient as possible.

“Our multidisciplinary approach to patient care means that you and your loved ones are part of the team that helps decide the best course of treatment,” said Nicole Fleming, M.D., center medical director at MD Anderson in Sugar Land. “As well as partnering with the patients and their families, our Sugar Land medical team works closely together, reviewing each patient’s case weekly. We also present every new patient’s case to our Texas Medical Center colleagues for additional input on treatment options to ensure the most customized approach to care possible.”

While all MD Anderson locations, such as the one in Sugar Land, offer the same level of care as the Texas Medical Center campus, each has its own set of specialties. MD Anderson in Sugar Land has chosen to bring additional services such as dermatology and plastic surgery to the local community.

“Whenever possible, we want to help reduce the risk of cancer,” Fleming said. “We’re more than a cancer treatment center. We offer cancer prevention services to help members of our community take preventive measures and live a life free of cancer.”
