McGuiness Dermatology SD 3-16 Prof FM:FP:380N_WEBAt McGuiness Dermatology, protecting your skin is their only priority. Everything from preventative care, including regular check ups and total body skin exams, to the detection and treatment of skin cancers are all handled with the same care and attention to detail. Michael McGuiness, MD, leads three offices in Plano, Flower Mound, and Prosper in providing quality dermatological care. Their state-of-the-art offices and medical equipment make your visits as pleasant and thorough as possible.

Reducing Fears and Finding Solutions

A total body skin exam is your best offense in detecting abnormalities of the skin, including skin cancers. Although no one wants to suffer from a cancer diagnosis, early detection can improve your overall chances of survival and can greatly improve your quality of life. If you’ve noticed changes in moles or areas of skin, don’t attempt to self-diagnose. Simply schedule your appointment with a skin specialist who can diagnose your area of concern and can provide solutions and options.

Dr. McGuiness and his staff are trained with the latest technology in skin cancer screening and use Melafind, a new and revolutionary way to evaluate moles for melanoma. This procedure is 98 percent effective in detecting abnormalities in moles without biopsy and can give a quick diagnosis to ease patients’ minds and to give patients choices of the next steps in their health care.

General Dermatology

When needing a general dermatologist to care for acne, moles, psoriasis, rosacea, or warts, patients want to choose a doctor who can listen to concerns and who has a consultative approach to each patient’s individual condition. Eighty percent of adolescents and five percent of adults suffer from acne, and each case requires individual attention and care.

In addition to general dermatology, Dr. McGuiness and his staff are experienced with all aspects of cosmetic dermatology, including the treatment for brown spots, scar treatment, and vein treatment. In addition, they provide laser hair removal, tattoo removal, body contouring, and microdermabrasion. Dr. McGuiness can provide a full consultation regarding options for facial rejuvenation and nonsurgical choices for all patients. Treatments for facial wrinkles and other signs of aging, sun damage, or smoking include microdermabrasion, chemical peels, and fillers like Juvéderm, Sculptra, or Restylane.

Dr. McGuiness began his professional career as a mechanical engineer before returning to school to obtain his medical degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston. From there, he completed his medical internship at SUNY (Stony Brook, New York) and residency in internal medicine at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. He was board certified in dermatology in 1996 and has been practicing in Plano, Texas, for the past 20 years. He is a fellow with the American Academy of Dermatology and is a member of the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery and other national societies of specialists. He’s proud to call Plano home and looks forward to meeting new patients and exceeding their expectations.
