Profiles in Dentistry 2020

Mark A. Craig, DDS, MD

For more than 20 years, Mark A. Craig, DDS, MD, has served McKinney and surrounding communities with the highest-quality and most advanced medical and dental care. A board-certified dental specialist and a licensed physician, Dr. Craig is considered the only full-time oral surgeon in McKinney. He is uniquely qualified in all aspects of oral, maxillofacial, and dental implant surgery.

Dr. Craig provides a range of services, including wisdom teeth extraction, dental implants, anesthesia services, and reconstructive and cosmetic procedures. He also possesses the training and expertise to manage TMJ disorders, repair complex facial injuries caused by trauma, correct congenital and acquired facial deformities, and manage various pathological conditions of the oral cavity and jaws.

Dr. Craig’s office is specifically designed and equipped with all required emergency equipment for surgical and anesthesia care. His office possesses a level 4 permit to provide office-based anesthesia services to both adults and children. “We have the ability to comfortably manage our patients under local or intravenous anesthesia with safety being priority number one,” says Dr. Craig.

If patients need extra assurance or guidance, they can take comfort knowing Dr. Craig is available to them 24-7. “I live a mile from the office, and I’m available to help patients whenever they need me,” he says.

“I give my patients continuity of care, from their first consultation to when they feel like their needs are taken care of. They can call me directly on my cell phone and I’ll answer their concerns.”

When other dental offices shut their doors during mandated COVID-19 closures, Dr. Craig kept his office open and fully staffed, treating hospital patients and emergency patients. As a physician, Dr. Craig already had all the necessary PPE and protocols in place to be able to safely care for his patients.

“We felt that it was our duty and obligation to continue caring for patients during this time,” he says. “We saw patients from other dental offices and donated dental services to people who could not seek emergency treatment elsewhere.”

Dr. Craig and his staff are now providing regular services, including elective procedures. His office follows regulations mandated by the state and federal government to help prevent the spread of COVID-19, including using appropriate PPE for both patients and staff.

Patients can complete paperwork online in advance to reduce their time in the office and they can wait from the safety and comfort of their own car to be guided to their consultation room. “My office may be one of the safest places to be because of all the procedures we have in place,” Dr. Craig explains. “I want my patients to know they should have no fear about coming in. Their health is critically important, and their dental health is equally important.”

For Dr. Craig, caring for his patients is a privilege and an honor. “As a local resident, my patients are my neighbors and my friends,” he says. “I enjoy the relationships I have developed with them and I’m honored that they have entrusted me with their care.”
