Peter Morgan, MD
Peter Morgan isn’t one to shy away from a challenge, and thousands of his patients at Lone Star Vein Center have the healthy veins to prove it. As founder and sole practitioner at Houston’s premier vein treatment center, Dr. Morgan specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of all types of vein diseases, but has made a name for himself treating and curing the most complex and difficult cases of chronic venous insufficiency, often cases other practitioners have failed to correct.
What Is Vein Disease?
There are five names for this problem—varicose veins, venous reflux, venous insufficiency, venous hypertension, and venous stasis. All of these names represent the same problem; that blood can no longer get back up out of your legs in a normal fashion. “Your heart is a pump that pushes the good blood out to your body including down into your legs,” explained Dr. Morgan. “Your legs then use up the oxygen, and nutrients. Then the old used blood needs to get back up to be filtered by your kidneys, get nutrition from your gastrointestinal tract, enzymes from your liver, and oxygen from your lungs.”
Problems occur when the blood can no longer makes it way back up hill, and the old, used blood pools in your legs. This creates a bad environment in your legs, and the pressure builds in the veins with each beat of your heart. This causes: swelling, pain, bulging veins, spider veins, restless legs, heaviness, tiredness, rash, and leg cramps.
Risk for Venous Reflux Disease
In addition to the pumping provided by your leg muscles, one-way check valves prevent blood from running backwards through the veins down into your legs. When veins get too big, the valves fail. This happens mostly in those with a family predisposition for the veins to get big, but also in those who have occupations, hobbies, or habits that result in long hours standing or sitting. It is also made worse by pregnancy, which is why women have this problem more than men.
Now for the good news. If you’re experiencing any of these vein-related problems, Dr. Morgan is a board-certified surgeon and vein specialist with over 25 years’ experience and thousands of endovenous procedures under his belt. And he’s right here in The Woodlands/Pasadena!
Lone Star Vein Center offers the most advanced treatment options available. One major very important distinction when you compare them to other vein centers is that every single procedure is done by Dr. Morgan. “Many vein centers are now very large multi-center clinics with many treating clinicians, some are not even physicians,” he said. “At other centers who you get to treat you is pot luck, as they have a constantly evolving clinical staff with highly variable experience. Our focus is on the very best possible result, which can only be achieved with the enormous experience accumulated after years of specialized vein care.”
Treatment is minimally invasive and performed in the office allowing for maximum improvement with minimal pain and downtime.
