Not only is Dr. Kien Tran an experienced and highly-trained dermatologist and dermatopathologist, he is a clinical assistant professor of Dermatology at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center where he teaches medical students and dermatology residents. Dr. Tran’s Liberty Dermatology practice includes general dermatology, skin cancer surgery, and cosmetic dermatology.

At Liberty Dermatology, Dr. Tran sees adult, pediatric, and geriatric patients. Dr. Tran and his staff provide a respectful and caring environment for patients, treating them like members of their own family. As both a skin pathologist and a dermatologist, he offers patients exclusive knowledge and a unique perspective on cutaneous diseases.

Surgery

Dr. Tran does general excisions of benign and malignant lesions along with more complex procedures. He performs surgery on a variety of skin conditions, including skin cancer, inflamed cysts, warts, skin tags, and suspicious-looking moles. He is highly skilled in removing benign and malignant lesions with care for an optimal cosmetic outcome. He is well-versed in skin rejuvenation as well, applying his skills to cosmetic treatments including Botox. Dr. Tran can also prescribe medications for hyperhidrosis (abnormally excessive sweating) and wrinkles. The practice is also offering more services with the addition of phototherapy devices to treat itchy rashes, vitiligo, and other skin conditions with unique wavelengths of ultraviolet light.

Dr. Tran received his medical training at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and specialty training at UT Southwestern Medical Center. Prior to becoming a dermatologist, Dr. Tran was involved in skin research at the University of Pittsburgh.

The Story Behind the Meaningful Name

As a child in the 1980’s, Dr. Tran and his family escaped from communist Vietnam to begin a new life in the United States. As a refugee of the Vietnam War, he feels incredibly privileged and thankful to be living in America today. “That is where the name of the practice came from,” he says proudly, referring to the word Liberty. He is the father of three boys, ages 11, 9, and 7. On weekends, they enjoy fishing in nearby lakes and playing basketball.

He has been voted Best Dermatologist in Rowlett and Rockwall by the readers of Living Magazine from 2013 to 2020, consecutively. He is the author of numerous publications including book chapters and research articles on skin care, skin cancer, and wound healing. Dr. Tran welcomes new patients to his practice and looks forward to caring for you and your family’s skin care needs. The practice will accommodate everyone’s scheduling needs and can usually schedule patients quickly, Monday through Friday.
