As busy as we all are today, who has time to drive past multiple dry cleaners to get to their cleaner of choice? Yet that’s precisely what customers of Kite’s Custom Cleaners have been happy to do for 62 years. At this time of social distancing, Kite’s is rewarding those decades of loyalty by expanding their contact-free pickup and delivery to Northeast Tarrant County at no additional charge. It’s no wonder this family-owned and operated company has earned Best Fort Worth Dry Cleaner awards 20 years running.
It all began in 1951 when Sam Kite moved his young family from Oklahoma City to Fort Worth to help manage his uncle’s dry cleaning plant. It wasn’t long before Sam struck out on his own opening Kite’s Custom Cleaners in 1958. From the beginning, Sam sought to offer his customers the highest quality and most extensive services he could, striving to go above and beyond their expectations. Gary Kite, Sam’s son, began managing the company in 1982, continuing that same spirit of excellence. Gary’s wife, Lillian, joined him in running the business, and a third-generation, Gary’s son, Nathan Kite, joined the company full time eight years ago.
At Kite’s, every dry cleaned item goes through an eight-step quality check process and is examined by three separate inspectors who scrutinize the work and send it back if it’s not up to company standards. Kite’s Custom Cleaners is certified through the National Cleaners Association, Dry Cleaning and Laundry Institute, and the Southwest Drycleaners Association. As such, they voluntarily undergo continuing education and training. Whether they’re perfecting environmentally-friendly dry cleaning methods or learning to be even gentler with their wet cleaning, the Kite’s commitment is to continually improve standards and expand services. Now all that excellence and dedication is available at the newest location on Glade Road in Colleyville.
Family of Employees
Kite’s Cleaners is also a great place to work. Employees enjoy benefits such as profit sharing, matching 401ks, health insurance, and paid vacations—unusual perks to find in this industry. And thanks to the positive work environment, the average Kite’s employee has been with the company 10 to 15 years, with some working there over 30. They know their customers and their customers know them.
Family of Customers
Generations of customers have depended on Kite’s and enjoyed the ever-growing list of specialty services such as wedding gown preservation and restoration. Kite’s Wedding Gown Specialists, a division of Kite’s Custom Cleaners, is the only Association of Wedding Gown Specialists-certified dry cleaner in Tarrant County and has been recognized by both The Knot and Wedding Wire for their wedding gown services. All work is completed in-house, never sent out, a routine practice for other dry cleaners. Because they’re members of Association of the Wedding Gown Specialists, a bride can have her gown cleaned and pressed then if she’s getting married out of state, she can contact any AWG specialist to have it pressed again for free when she arrives. It’s no wonder, so many customers drive from far away to have their wedding gown cared for at Kite’s.
Family Heirlooms Preserved
Kite’s is Smithsonian-trained to lovingly restore and preserve historical garments such as vintage wedding gowns and military uniforms, with a lifetime guarantee protecting the garments for generations to come. They also offer Kite’s Crown Couture Service, their proprietary system of white-glove care for the cleaning and preservation of your finest clothes. While all Kite’s cleaning is dedicated to achieving excellent results, Crown Couture Service offers added benefits such as handling by only their most highly trained and experienced specialists, step-by-step inspections of garments before and after cleaning, repairing, retexturing, re-stitching, or replacement of loose buttons, loops, and fasteners when necessary, zipper lubrication, and more.
Five years ago, they added rug cleaning to their offerings and, in true Kite’s Cleaners style, worked to achieve certification from the Association of Rug Cleaning Specialists, the preeminent international trade association dedicated to the art and science of rug care. They’ll pick up your rug and clean it in accordance with stringent ARCS guidelines, then deliver it back to you.
