Most of us have heard the term “general surgeon,” but we may not know what it means. Quite simply, a general surgeon specializes in performing surgeries of all kinds. It’s what they do day in and day out. (See sidebar for specifics.) If you live in the Greater Rockwall/Rowlett area, you have access to the premier surgeons at Lakeside Surgery. P.A. Drs. Makohon, Stephens, and Buxie provide exemplary surgical care while focusing on the individual needs of each patient and patient’s family. Local primary care physicians referred their patients to Lakeside Surgery, P.A. surgeons with confidence, knowing they’ll receive the absolute best, state-of-the-art care from American Board of Surgery-Certified doctors with knowledge and skill for diagnosis, preoperative, operative, and postoperative management of surgical problems. Dr. Jeff Stephens likes to tell his patients, “I hope you never need us but, if you do, we’ll always give you the best.”
No two days are the same for these premier surgeons. On any given day, Dr. Stephens may be performing an urgent appendectomy at Lake Pointe Medical Center, while Dr. Makohon is consulting with a breast cancer patient preparing for a mastectomy at Presbyterian Hospital of Rockwall, and Dr. Buxie is providing chronic wound care for a third patient at Rockwall Surgery Center. Although surgery is their specialty, they always seek the least invasive option possible.
“Upon referral from their primary care doctor, we evaluate and treat patients for abdominal pain, gallbladder disease, hernias, small intestine problems, colon masses, colon cancer, and other conditions,” Dr. Stephens said. “We also evaluate and treat patients for skin and breast lesions.” Drs. Makohon, Stephens, and Buxie work cooperatively with primary care physicians and other specialists to manage the care of patients suffering from these and other acute and chronic conditions.
