Lake Pointe Dentistry
Saturday February 13 was a busy day at Lake Pointe Dentistry with families bustling around, reuniting with old friends, and meeting new ones. There was lots of conversation, laughter, and even some tears as four area dentists joined Dr. Rick LeFlore and together provided free dental care to families who were affected by the recent tornadoes. CBS Channel 11 and KLTY Radio were even on hand reporting. It all began with an invitation on the practice’s Facebook page. “Since we moved to Rowlett five years ago, this community has welcomed us with open arms,” Dr. LeFlore wrote. “We’d like to say ‘thanks’ by providing free dentistry to all the tornado victims in the area. We hope you’ll spread the word to family and friends who were victimized by the natural disaster.”
And spread the word they did. The dentists fixed broken teeth and filled cavities. Hygienists performed cleanings. By the end of the day they’d given away $30,000 worth of free dentistry. “We just did whatever anyone needed us to do,” Dr. LeFlore said. “It was a great feeling to do be able to do something for these families, when it could have been any of us who lost our homes.”
A day of free dentistry is just one way Dr. LeFlore and his dynamic team give back to the Rowlett community. Over the past year, they’ve involved their patients in collecting nonperishable food to help stock the shelves at the North Texas Food Bank, sold T-shirts to raise money for a local cancer patient, and jumped in wherever they saw a need they could meet. “I guess that’s the nature of a family practice,” Dr. LeFlore said. “We really get to know our patients, often several generations of a family. We watch the kids grow up, go off to college, get married, and then return with their own kids. Most of my staff has been here a long time and we really are like a family. What matters to our patients matters to us.”
Longtime patients of Lake Pointe Dentistry have come to depend on that family atmosphere and look forward to annual events such as a pumpkin decorating contest around Halloween and guessing how many gold coins are in the leprechaun’s pot on St. Paddy’s day. A trip to Lake Pointe Dentistry means being recognized by name as you walk through the door and enjoying as much as Dr. LeFlore’s time as you need to have your questions asked, before any treatment begins.
“My patients often drive past several other dentists’ offices to get to me,” Dr. LeFlore said. “It’s my job to make sure it’s worth their drive to come to us.” Toward that end, he has amassed the latest in dental technology such as digital X-rays that minimize the amount of radiation to his patients and a state-of-the-art laser which allows him to fill teeth without ever giving an injection. (This is especially advantageous for his young patients.)
And when his patients asked for the latest cosmetic dentistry options, he heard them loud and clear. “We live in a world where physical appearance is very important,” he said. “It’s been said that 90 percent of the impression we give comes through our smile. Nothing makes me happier than helping a patient who is self-conscious about their teeth, even unwilling to smile, realize the dream of a spectacular, Hollywood smile.” Although he’s performed smile makeovers on Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders and Dallas Mavericks Dancers, Dr. LeFlore says it’s not just those in the limelight who need and want a gorgeous smile.
“Sure I’ve used porcelain veneers and dental implants to remake a smile for a salesman or professional speaker, but I’ve also done it for stay-at-home moms, grandmothers, or anyone who has reached middle age and realized their smile has faded,” Dr. LeFlore said. “It doesn’t take much to make your smile look spectacular again, but it can make all the difference in the way you look—and feel about yourself. And just as important, procedures to correct a bite enable my patients to chew normally again, to eat anything they want, and to live free of headaches and jaw pain.”
Soothing Dental Anxiety
When a patient returns to thank him for allowing them to love their smile again—or for the first time—Dr. LeFlore is thankful for a profession that allows him to impact so many lives doing something he loves. “Another thing I love about my job is when I’m able to help someone who has deep-seated dental anxiety due to experiences in their past,” he said. “Dental knowledge and technology has advanced to such a point that there’s no reason a trip to see your dentist should be anything but a pleasant experience. When a patient is very nervous about seeing me, that’s when I know I need to slow down and just listen, let them ask as many questions as they need to, and lay out all their treatment options so they can make an educated decision about how we will proceed.” Dr. LeFlore is also happy to prescribe oral sedation, for his most anxious patients. “As long as they have someone to drive them to and from the office,” he added.
When he’s not on the job, Dr. LeFlore enjoys spending time with his wife and eight kids, mountain biking, and riding his Harley. He’s currently accepting new patients at Lake Pointe Dentistry.
