Dr. Danchak and her staff have implemented necessary adjustments to the appointment protocols that ensure everyone that visits Kos/Danchak Audiology is cared for, safely.

Dr. Melissa Danchak is humbled by the opportunity to help people. “We are given the opportunity to help people in North Texas hear the best they can. The positive quality of life differences we make for those with hearing health concerns is awesome!”

Hearing and understanding what is said is more challenging than ever before. “So many of the environments that we are in on a daily basis have competing background noises. Understanding what is said can be a challenge for someone who has ‘normal hearing’. Because hearing loss isn’t as noticeable as blurry vision or a toothache, it’s understandable that people deny that they may have a hearing loss. Trying to hear and understand what someone is saying through a facemask makes communication infinitely more challenging for someone with hearing loss.”

Dr. Danchak has a few communication strategies to share. “Wearing a facemask removes the visual cues from lipreading that often help those with hearing difficulties fill in the blanks. Not using one is not really an option at this time so here are a few ideas to communicate effectively.”

  • Make sure you have the person’s attention before you begin speaking with them.
  • When speaking with someone, especially if they have hearing loss, slow down your rate of speech. Enunciate your words, rather than over-exaggerating them.
  • Instead of repeating what you just said word for word, try to rephrase what you said if someone does not hear you.

Dr. Danchak and her staff have implemented necessary adjustments to the appointment protocols that ensure everyone that visits Kos/Danchak Audiology is cared for, safely.

“The strategies we’re suggesting will help improve communication. However, it doesn’t change the fact that someone with hearing loss needs to get their ears and hearing checked and learn about the benefits of hearing device technology! We recognize getting that help means we must provide an experience where people receive great care in a safe manner.”

Your better experience begins with a discussion about your unique and personal hearing challenges you face each day. A hearing evaluation is then conducted and, if appropriate, a live listening demonstration with hearing devices will be provided. “I’ve been helping people hear better for over 23 years and it’s always exciting to watch someone hear better again,” Dr. Danchak said. ”It is an emotional experience that reminds us of why we do what we do.” Dr. Danchak and her staff understand that investing in better hearing is not just about technology. “Our Complete Hearing Health Care Program includes all of the services people need to be successful with their investment in better hearing – including free batteries for the lifetime of the devices.” The long-term relationship Kos/Danchak Audiology has formed is just one reason they have earned over 75 five-star reviews on Google, Facebook, and HealthyHearing.com. It’s also why so many of their satisfied patients refer their friends and family to them each month.
