Say Goodbye To Unreliable Temporary Crowns And Multiple Visits!

Karen Williamson, DDS

If you have ever worn a temporary crown while your permanent crown was being fabricated by a laboratory, you know how unreliable they can be. It’s a catch-22. A temporary crown needs to be set in such a way that it can be easily removed in a couple of weeks to make way for the permanent crown. Unfortunately, that means if, over the next 14 days, you forget and floss next to it, eat something sticky, or bite something hard, it can pop out and send you running back to the dentist to have it temporarily glued down again — and again. There has to be a better way!

Fortunately, there is. That’s why Dr. Karen Williamson invested in a next-generation CEREC same-day crown restoration system over fifteen years ago. With it, she can offer her patients a permanent, custom-fit ceramic crown the same day. This means you can come in with a broken tooth and leave a few hours later with a permanent, natural-looking, fully functioning solution.

CEREC Same-Day Crowns

When Dr. Williamson opened her practice 30 years ago, it was with a commitment to continually reeducate herself as dental technology advances. Since then, she has exceeded 200 hours of continuing education each year, searching out and educating herself on the latest dental breakthroughs and discoveries. Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics (CEREC) technology in her office results from that commitment. CEREC uses CAD/CAM technology, incorporating a camera, computer, and milling unit. It means no more gooey, bad-tasting impressions or bulky impression trays.

Instead, a scanner captures an accurate, three-dimensional image of the damaged tooth and the surrounding environment. This optical impression is transferred and displayed on a color computer screen, where Dr. Williamson uses computer-aided design (CAD) technology to design your restoration. Then, computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) automatically creates the restoration while you wait. The in-house milling machine creates a restoration completely customized for your bite. Once the new restoration is milled, Dr. Williamson securely bonds it to the surface of the tooth. The whole process takes just a few hours, so there is no need for you to miss additional work for a return visit.

Dr. Williamson’s CEREC technology comes with over 30 years of clinical research and documentation to support the technology showing it to be precise and effective. Your CEREC crown is tooth-colored, which means no more visible silver discoloring your smile. The porcelains used in the milling procedure are the same porcelains as used in the laboratory.

In short, the CEREC same-day crown restoration system at Karen Williamson, DDS, PA means:

  • Most procedures can be done in one visit
  • The restoration is less time-consuming
  • No more bulky, messy, bad-tasting impressions
  • No need for unreliable temporary crowns between visits
  • As much natural tooth structure saved as possible
  • Metal-free restorations
  • Natural, beautiful, and functional teeth

Giving Back

Dr. Williamson and her team love giving back through Smiles for Life, a nationwide charity that enables dentists to help children in the U.S. and internationally, while also giving locally to the charity of their choice.

“Each year, we offer our patients professional whitening with all donated proceeds going directly to charity,” Dr. Williamson said. “Half of the money collected goes to Smiles for Life to help seriously ill, disabled, and underprivileged children and half goes locally to our chosen charity, PATRIOT PAWS, who train and provide service dogs to disabled veterans with mobile disabilities and PTSD. We just finished this year’s campaign, during which our patients donated more than $12,000, landing us in the top 25 Smiles for Life offices across the country. We couldn’t have done it without our generous patients. It’s such a win/win. Our patients get gorgeous white teeth, and at the same time, donate to two very worthy charities. Thanks to everyone who participated this year and in the past.” Find out more at SmilesForLife.org and PatriotPaws.org.
