Fertility can sometimes feel like a bumpy, emotional journey, but Janelle Dorsett, MD, is your calm captain, navigating couples to success. She’s been a fertility specialist for 30 years, performed groundbreaking fertility research, and helped train the next generation of doctors as an associate professor.
Dr. Dorsett is a board-certified reproductive endocrinologist at Fertility Specialists of Texas who diagnoses and treats complex causes of infertility. She is especially interested in gestational surrogacy, donor egg and embryo adoption cycles, and polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).
“I have always loved women’s health,” said Dr. Dorsett. “I love the challenge of finding out why couples can’t conceive and helping them fix it.”
After three decades of practicing in Lubbock, Dr. Dorsett transferred to Fertility Specialists of Texas in Fort Worth in October 2020. “We give women and men in Tarrant County a way to find out what their fertility challenges are,” she said. “Then, they have the chance to add to their family when they couldn’t do it alone. About 20 percent of couples are infertile, which is a lot of people who need help. Our clinic offers good quality care close to home.”
There have been many memorable moments in Dr. Dorsett’s career, including helping one woman have a baby after nine miscarriages. “She brought the baby back to see me, and she was crying and so appreciative of my help,” Dr. Dorsett said.
Dr. Dorsett also removed 32 fibroid tumors from a woman’s uterus so she could carry a baby. Another woman had an abnormal uterus due to fibroids and had lost several pregnancies, so her sister-in-law became her gestational surrogate. Because of this, the couple was able to have a child. Another case involved a woman with cystic fibrosis. She worked with Dr. Dorsett to do in vitro fertilization (IVF) and genetic testing and used donor eggs to have a baby.
“I love what I do,” said Dr. Dorsett. “I always have. I’m so thankful I chose this field early in my career, and I still love it as much as I did in the beginning. I love seeing the joy in my patient’s faces when they first find out they’re pregnant and when I do the first ultrasound to hear the baby’s heartbeat. I enjoy being a part of that moment.”
Fertility Specialists of Texas is a team of six physicians across several locations that treat individuals and couples with all types of infertility, sexual orientations, and backgrounds. “We offer high-quality care that has second-to-none success rates in treating infertility,” said Dr. Dorsett. The clinic’s services include IVF, inducing ovulation, artificial insemination, donor eggs and embryos, egg freezing, and more.
“With all my patients, I give 100 percent effort to figure out why they can’t conceive and how to help them have a baby,” added Dr. Dorsett. “We’ll do our best to help anyone who comes to us.” Getting pregnant may not be smooth sailing, but you can’t go wrong with Fertility Specialists of Texas leading the way.
