Jalin Jewelers owners Todd and Tara Romberger were going through some old files recently when Tara found transcripts of several radio commercials for the store recorded by Todd’s father and original owner, Jim, almost 30 years ago. In 1990, Jim’s knowledge of the jewelry business was limited. But with a background in business start-up and his knack for getting people’s attention, Jim and his loving wife, Linda, along with Todd and his younger brother Jason, took a leap of faith — and the Romberger family opened Jalin in 1991.
“Jim’s tagline for the old radio commercials was ‘inconveniently located at the northeast corner of Park and Preston in West Plano.’ That was our original location,” Tara said. “Jim wanted to get people’s attention, and it was true. West Plano was just being established, and North Dallas people felt like they were traveling to Oklahoma just to come to Jalin.”
She added, “Plano wasn’t big back then, and the market wasn’t as saturated as it is now. Things have changed.”
Well, yes and no on the “changed” part. While Jalin Jewelers has been conveniently located on the southwest corner of Spring Creek and Preston since 2003, they continue to steal everyone’s attention while honoring what Todd’s parents envisioned 30 years ago — a family business with a legacy of taking care of its customers.
“We’re proud of what we do, and that is reflected in how we treat our customers,” Todd said. “No one in our store works on commission, so we stay focused on helping you find exactly what you want at the quality you want.”
Making a trip to the jewelry store can be confusing if you do not know which professional to trust. Jalin makes the process easier than ever while offering the best jewelry and world-class service under one roof. They have all the latest styles and offer state-of-the-art, in-house repair work, engraving, and custom services that can transform a family heirloom into a modernized, eye-catching treasure. They also do appraisals, consignment, provide an estate program, and purchases gold and other precious metals onsite.
Todd holds a Graduate Diamonds Certificate from the Gemological Institute of America and keeps up on all latest industry developments. Todd encourages customers to put their trust in a family business, adding, “Don’t shop on price alone. If a deal is too good to be true, then it probably is! You are not always getting the gems and the quality that you want, and most online shops bury those important details under flashy names. Typically, they don’t have the customer support to give you the answers you deserve.”
Tara added, “We have a lot of repeat business, and because of this, we get to meet our customers personally — some for many generations.”
Not bad for a family business voted by their customers The Best Jewelry Store in Plano.
