Specializing in family medicine, J. Todd Carruthers, MD provides comprehensive medical care to residents of Allen and surrounding areas. He is proud to offer personalized and quality primary care with a full spectrum of services. Focusing on preventive care, Dr. Carruthers firmly believes in keeping you healthy, as well as treating acute medical issues. Complete physicals, well woman exams, wellness counseling, cancer screening, smoking cessation, and weight loss counseling are just some of the services he offers. He and his staff strive to provide a pleasant, caring experience for every patient.
Dr. Carruthers is pleased to now offer a new, innovative treatment to get rid of stubborn body fat. SculpSure is the first and only FDA-cleared laser for the non-invasive treatment of unwanted subcutaneous fat. It uses heat to cause thermal lipolysis—the destruction of fat cells. SculpSure works best for sculpting and fine-tuning tricky areas where unwanted fat is sometimes stored. “Not for the obese, this treatment is best for people with problem areas like the abdominals, upper arms, hips, inner and outer thighs, and buttocks,” Dr. Carruthers said. Since fat cells are destroyed, the effects of treatment are permanent, assuming proper diet and exercise habits are maintained. Dr. Carruthers has seen great results with patients who have previously lost a considerable amount of weight, but want to sculpt and tighten the remaining problem areas. Patients notice a gradual improvement since it takes time for the body to reabsorb fat. Results can take six to twelve weeks to become apparent. Treatments can be performed every six weeks until desired results are achieved. If a diet and exercise program is maintained, the results will be quite noticeable. Dr. Carruthers works with each patient to develop a personalized treatment program.
Dr. Carruthers also offers Botox injections for alleviating unwanted facial wrinkles in men and women. As a courtesy to his patients, injections are offered at very competitive prices.
A native Texan, Dr. Carruthers attended Southern Methodist University where he graduated cum laude in 1991 with a BA in Psychology and a minor in Biology. He completed his medical education at the University of Iowa College of Medicine, graduating with an MD in 1995.
He completed his residency in family practice at the Quad-Cities Genesis Family Practice Residency Program in Davenport, Iowa. Dr. Carruthers served as chief resident during his final year. Upon completion of his residency in 1998, Dr. Carruthers moved back to the Dallas area and practiced in Richardson and Plano before relocating to Allen and establishing his private practice. Dr. Carruthers is board certified in family practice.
