Spinal problems. Definitely not something to be taken lightly. If you or someone you love suffers from neck and/or back problems resulting from work, or sports related injuries, scoliosis, accidents, or spinal degeneration, it is well worth your time to seek out an expert not only in orthopedics but specifically in spinal disorders.
At the Institute of Spinal Disorders, Drs. Robert Myles and Anil Kesani utilize a multidisciplinary approach, offering patients comprehensive care and delivering the right treatment solutions to make back and neck pain history.
Interdisciplinary Team Approach Assures Comprehensive Spinal Care
Back pain is so prevalent in our society and is the number one cause of disability. For this reason, the Institute of Spinal Disorders has created a better way to manage spine care from start to finish.
The Institute of Spinal Disorders specializes in minimally invasive surgery, artificial disc replacement, spinal deformities, sports injuries, herniated discs, scoliosis, and more. Drs. Myles and Kesani take an integrated team approach that includes a pain specialist, a physician specializing in physical medicine and rehabilitation, a physician assistant, chiropractors, psychologists, acupuncturists, radiologists, and nurses.
“Surgery is always a last resort,” said Dr. Myles. “If patients seek treatment early on, it is very likely we can help them get well and avoid a cycle of recurring pain and problems later on.”
The integrated approach utilized at Institute of Spinal Disorders benefits patients in a variety of ways. “We know that every patient is unique and there is no one-size-fits-all solution to back or neck pain,” said Dr. Kesani. “Two patients with the same diagnosis, for example, could have very different treatment plans based on their goals. This is why the Institute of Spinal Disorders utilizes an integrated delivery system for state-of-the-art operative and non-operative spine care.”
“In the ever-changing face of healthcare, I truly believe this is the time to offer patients a better option for comprehensive spine care than what has traditionally been available,” added Dr. Myles.
With Drs. Myles and Kesani’s pioneering spirits and genuine sincere desire to offer a better way for spine patients to receive the right mix of surgical solutions, The Institute of Spinal Disorders is poised to deliver state-of-the-art operative and non-operative spinal care in a bigger and better way than ever before.
Growing to Serve Patients Better
Institute of Spinal Disorders’ main office in Bedford moves to a new, expanded location just up the road in Hurst later this month. “This larger facility will allow us more room to expand services and have many support services—such as physical therapy, pain management, and the surgery center—all under one roof for patient convenience,” said Dr. Kesani. “We have plans to offer imaging, CT, and MRI capabilities in-house in the near future as well. We have a great camaraderie among all of our providers, and that makes our patients feel more relaxed, comfortable, and confident about the care they receive.”
For patients who live a little farther north of the Metroplex, Drs. Myles and Kesani also see patients at their new location in Decatur.
Meet the Team
Dr. Robert Myles’ medical training includes an orthopedic residency at Tulane University in New Orleans followed by a spine fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. He brings firsthand experience when it comes to understanding the needs and mindsets of athletes. Dr. Myles is a sixth-degree black belt in Shotokan Karate and a third-degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do. He is a former member of the USA Shotokan Karate Team and won the U.S. National Heavyweight Fighting Championship. His own experience with injuries and the care he received from various sports medicine experts led him to his career as a spinal surgeon.
Since its early days, Dr. Myles has been on the forefront of advancing and improving minimally invasive surgery techniques. He even developed and patented a device that greatly improves the effectiveness of minimally invasive surgical procedures and makes it easier for other surgeons to use MIS techniques as well. He specializes in reconstructive lumbar surgery along with scoliosis, disc replacement, and minimally invasive surgery.
Dr. Anil Kesani joined the Institute of Spinal Disorders in September of 2015. He was a spine specialist in an orthopedic group practice in Chicago for four years prior to relocating to Texas, where his wife has family. “I have had a lot of fun taking care of Texas patients,” said Dr. Kesani. “They are very nice people.” Dr. Kesani completed an accelerated Bachelors of Science degree with first class honors, followed by medical school at University College London. He then completed a residency in Orthopedic Surgery at the University of Medicine and Dentistry in New Jersey, followed by a combined Orthopedic Surgery and Neurosurgery spine fellowship in Ontario, Canada.
“I have always been fascinated with the spine and spinal pathology as it relates to helping people improve their function, and prevent disability thereby allowing them to return to their normal lives,” said Dr. Kesani. “I try to be conservative and first try non- surgical options whenever possible. I truly enjoy all aspects of spine surgery, but I am particularly drawn to complex cervical spine surgery.”
