Houston Pediatric Dental Specialists

Houston Pediatric Dental Specialists SD 3-16_WEBFew things in your children’s lives are as important as their early dental experiences. One negative visit can set them up for a lifetime of dental fear, which leads to avoiding routine dental care. So choosing a caring pediatric dentist should be a top priority for every parent.

What should you look for? Experience in pediatric dental care. Convenient locations. Emergency care, 24-hours a day. A fun, colorful environment so kids look forward to their visits. An open-door policy where parents are encouraged to be a part of the treatment experience.

You’ll find all of this and more at Houston Pediatric Dental Specialists, the practice of Drs. Regina Lewis, Julie Longoria and Elizabeth Chen. As experienced, board-certified pediatric dentists, they pursue continuing education in dental care far beyond what the state requires. During their residency trainings, they were introduced to a myriad of rare conditions, while working in the area’s top medical centers, and learned essential approaches for treating young patients with special needs. You can trust them to care for any dental need your child might have.

Smiles Gone Wild Here!

Did you know that tooth decay is the most common, chronic childhood disease in the United States? Fortunately it’s completely preventable. The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends a child’s first dental visit at age one, a guideline Drs. Lewis and Longoria wholeheartedly problems early that might prevent a child from having to experience a lot of dental work later on,” Dr. Lewis said. Those early visits include evaluating tooth eruption and detecting any missing teeth or concerns. The dentists also look for white spot lesions that indicate early childhood caries (decay), so topical fluoride varnish can be applied periodically as a preventive treatment. “We don’t need to obtain X-rays until age four, unless there is a concern, and even then, all our X-rays are done digitally.”

When cavities are detected, Houston Pediatric Dental Specialists’ offices employ the least-invasive measures needed to halt the decay. They even have the technology to repair small cavities without anesthesia. “The earlier you find concerns, the easier they are to fix,” said Dr. Lewis. “Early and frequent check-ups are the keys to prevention.”

The dental team also takes a holistic approach to care with a deep concern for not just their young patients’ teeth but also their overall good health. “We talk to parents about healthy snacking and diets, like discouraging gummy snacks and juices that promote tooth decay and introduce a lot of sugar to a child’s diet,” said Dr. Lewis. “We offer alternatives that are less likely to cause cavities and contribute to good health.”

The dental team devotes time helping patients and their parents master good brushing and flossing techniques. They also offer sedation options to ensure young patients experience the most comfortable dental visit possible. Houston Pediatric Dental Specialists are also aware that families are busy and time is precious, so they opened their fourth convenient location in Fulshear last September and will open a fifth office in Towne Lake later this Spring, welcoming a third pediatric dentist, Dr. Elizabeth Chen. They even offer orthodontic services at select locations for the ultimate in patient care.

“Our seasoned staff travels to each location, so you’ll receive our same level of devotion and philosophy of care no matter where you bring your child,” said
Dr. Lewis. “We really do a great job taking care of our young patients and their families.”
