BAYLOR SCOTT & WHITE COLON AND RECTAL CARE OF ROCKWALL
Robert Cloud, MD, FACS, FACRS
Dr. Robert Cloud was in the seventh grade when he developed an interest in health and science. With the encouragement of his health science teacher, David Shepard, Dr. Cloud decided then that he wanted to pursue healthcare as a profession. That early passion for science and caring for patients carried him through undergraduate school, medical school at Tulane University, his residency and fellowship at Baylor Medical Center Dallas, and thru 33 years as a board certified colon and rectal surgeon. “I enjoyed the journey,” Dr. Cloud said. “It’s a long road, but it flew by. I started at 18 and finished at age 32. My training had a big impact on me, and I enjoy what I do.”
One reason Dr. Cloud decided to specialize in colon and rectal care is because it afforded him the opportunity to treat diseases with both medical and surgical options. “I liked the fact that in colon and rectal surgery you’ve got a big office practice, a big outpatient surgical practice, and a hospital-based big case practice, so it keeps you involved the whole day,” Dr. Cloud said.
Dr. Cloud has been serving the Rockwall and Greenville areas for the past 25 years as a colorectal surgeon whose practice is limited to the medical and surgical treatment of the diseases of the colon and rectum. He was selected as a Super Doctor in colon and rectal surgery by Texas Monthly, that list representing the top two percent of doctors in Texas. He was voted among the best colorectal surgeons in Dallas by D Magazine seven times, and as a colorectal surgeon in Rockwall, Texas, was listed among the best doctors by U.S. News & World Report. Dr. Cloud also served as the associate director of surgical education at Baylor Medical Center. Baylor Medical Center is a center of excellence for colorectal cancer and Dr. Cloud brings those principals of excellence with him to the Rockwall/Greenville area. His practice is heavily weighted towards a comprehensive colon cancer screening and treatment program to include screening colonoscopy and minimally Invasive surgical treatment.
At Colon and Rectal Care of Rockwall, the office takes a full team approach for treating patients’ needs. Dr. Cloud stresses the importance of patient service and compassion with his employees.
“I’m a people-oriented person and I try to put myself in the patient’s shoes and what they are going through, and I try to remain mindful of that fact, as we make our way down the road of taking care of their particular colon and rectal problem,” Dr. Cloud said.
The Baylor Scott & White Colon and Rectal Care of Rockwall office treats a litany of colon and rectal conditions, including colon and rectal cancer, diverticular disease, rectal prolapse, surgery for Crohn’s and ulcerative colitis, as well as the usual anorectal conditions (hemorrhoids, anal abscess, pilonidal disease, anal fistula, anal fissure, rectovaginal fistula, anal incontinence, and colon and rectal polyps). He also evaluates the symptoms of rectal bleeding, rectal pain, anemia, and constipation.
When he is not treating patients, Dr. Cloud enjoys playing a round of golf or spending time with his wife, Connie.
