In these unprecedented, high school senior classes are being asked to change how their graduation ceremonies are commencing. With many districts making the decision to hold their ceremonies virtually, one principal went the extra mile to mark the occasion.

Dr. Scott Rudes, the principal of Booker T. Washington HSPVA, took the road less traveled and drove over 1,500 miles in 10 days to congratulate 240 seniors and hand-deliver their diplomas.

In a recent interview, Dr. Rudes told FOX4 of Dallas, “One of our core values at our school is to ignite joy, and that is what I saw on the faces of my seniors and their families. Just a few minutes of joy in the midst of all this uncertainty.”

One parent tweeted, “It brightened our day when our daughter’s principal, Dr. Scott Rudes from Booker T Washington HSPVA showed up at our house to deliver her diploma cover this week. Thanks for such a kind and personal touch.”
