The term “wisdom teeth” refers to our third molars, located in the back of our mouths, appearing sometime between the middle teenage years and early twenties. When inadequate space prevents wisdom teeth from erupting, they can become impacted or fail to erupt into the proper position for chewing and cleaning which can lead to complications ranging from cysts, infection, crowding of teeth, and damage to adjacent teeth.
Dr. Ismaili recommends evaluation of wisdom teeth in the mid-teenage years to determine whether they are impacted, if there’s space for them to erupt, and how difficult they will be to remove. If he sees potential problems, he recommends extraction sometime before the root structure is fully developed, as early as 12 or 13 or as late as the early twenties. IV sedation can be used for a safe and comfortable experience.
Dentures are undependable, unrealistic looking, and provide only a fraction of the biting power of natural teeth. Dental implants, however, allow for natural-looking crowns to be placed atop titanium anchors affixed to the jaw bone and serve as a permanent replacement for lost teeth. These crowns are fully functional and natural looking!
Dr. Ismaili offers dental implants to replace one tooth or a whole set of teeth. The in-office procedure takes 30 to 60 minutes for one implant and two to three hours for multiple implants. Please call us to see if you are a candidate for implants!
